If you can stand out right ranchy obsurdity, then go for the Rocky Horror (Picture) Show. I actually really loved the music in that one.

I'm fairly certain Helloween means "raunchy". There is very little salad dressing involved.

That being said, yeah, Rocky Horror is probably my favorite musical as well. I don't really think it jives nicely with the stuff you mentioned though.

Assassins is what I was going to recommend...damn you, Yama.

Also, the American Astronaut is a good one.

Blues Brothers, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, O, Brother, Where Art Thou?...
I'm not sure how serious the musical has to be, but:

South Park, Tenacious D & the Pick of Destiny?

Well I personally love to preach the word of RENT if you like a more rock oriented musical, rather than the light sunshine and daisies type musicals. If you like High School Musical, you'll probably like Hairspray.

Thank you, that is what i meant.

Also, Singing in the Rain has recently become one of my favourites. Chicago also wasn't bad.

My personal favorites are:

- Little Shop of Horrors (I prefer the Movie OST, but either are fine)
- Kismet
- Rocky Horror
- Phantom of the Opera

Despite being a music major, I have very few favorites in the way of musicals.
At the moment I've been listening to Kismet an awful lot, which is based on the music of Alexander Borodin and is quite good.

Awesome! I will try to search for these musicals.

My personal favorites:

Les Miserables
Phantom of the Opera
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Lion King
Avenue Q
Spamalot
Wicked (not complex, but catchy tunes and good singing)
Ragtime

According to your list, you may like older Disney (not OLD, but older), like:

-The Little Mermaid
-Beauty and the Beast

You definitely should go see Mama Mia. If you're familiar with Abba music, it's a special treat for you. If you're not, it will introduce to you some good music. This musical has an OK story, but it's so much fun to watch. I'm sure you'll be laughing the whole show while enjoying excellent music.
