Cool kitchen appliances, etc.

What cool kitchen appliances have you come across? Do you have any?

In terms of normal coolness, I love my popcorn popper. Nothing special about it, aside from the fact that it makes fantastic popcorn. I've come across a few really spiffy kitchen things that have made me jealous, though:

I like the second pic for some reason...hmm...

I always liked the tortilla press thingy I have. It looks kind of like this.

I also like this thing my mom has which is like a bowl on legs, and it comes with a rock. My mom uses it to smash avocados and some other foods.

I am easily amused..

I love the stabbed man knife holder!

I have no pictures or cool kitchen appliances of my own, although strangely enough, when I was young, a mere garlic press amazed me since you just put the garlic inside, and then squeeze. The skin shell would plop out perfectly leaving the cloves undamaged somehow, and perfect for plucking.

The salad spinner we have still amuses me too since you pull a string and then it spins the salad for a while before you have to pull it again.

Ugh, I hate the stabbed man knife holder. NOT AN IMAGE I WANT IN MY KITCHEN WHERE I PREPARE MY FOOD, THX. /runsaway

You know, I am fairly pretty sure I'm in love with the microwave when it comes to the kitchen appliance. I am American, after all. Or the coffee maker. Can openers are my best friend when making spaghetti sauce or anything else that involves stewing (canned veggies/tomatoes and broth FTW).

The second pic is awesome...

Sorry to say, I don't have any cool gadgets. Well, I have this interesting boiling pot thingy, but its really nothing special.

Popcorn poppers are very cool. My family has an old one from like the 1980s. Still makes great popcorn though.:D

Aside from cake mixers, I haven't really used many interesting kitchen tools yet. I like the cake mixer since it saves time and doesn't require much effort to clean. I also use a garlic press when cooking normal meals since I never buy garlic in the jars.

I love the hot chocolate maker we have at home. You just pour in the milk and the chocolate powder and it stirs it and heats it at the same time. Hot chocolate made with water is terrible when compared to the hot chocolate you can get from this thing.

I love going to the Japanese supermarket with my wife. ALL the kitchen appliances look for freaking high tech and streamlined. The rice makers there have multiple digital readouts. I'd love to buy one (but they are like $200.00) just to have it siton my counter top and look cool.

I love that knife holder. And all you motherfuckers with your fancy hot chocolate makers. *Shakes fist*

The only thing I like in this Guatemalan kitchen for practical reasons is the vegetable chopper. Does it in two seconds instead of the time it takes to mince all that shit by hand.

My dad gave me this weird thing for handling eggs when I moved into my apartment. It's sort of like a pair of tongs, but each side is made of several metal loops that bend to conform to the egg's shape. I've never actually used the thing, but it looks kinda cool.

Hand-mixers are still the most fun kitchen tool though.

Okay, so thought of one (because I just washed it). It's the Zeroll Ice Cream Scoop. It's pretty simple and cool, because it uses the heat from your hand to easily scoop the ice cream, making the surface of the ice cream slick and rolling it nicely for some perfect scoops... no wetting required. Not an appliance, but a pretty cool kitchen utensil.

i love my stone squeeze thingy lime dejuicer thing so that drinking a fat shot of lime juice is so much esuer and faster.

ummm...what if you've got cold hands....

one of the coolest kitchen appliance is one that I'll not be affording for a long long time... simply known as the PacoJet.
As a fan of cooking I like to have some of the more interesting appliances I can get my hands on. And this one is definitely an interesting one with a US$3,500 price tag on it.

Within my personal collection though? I really like my iSi Foam Canister that allows for me to whip up/foam almost anything. Now I just need to get my hands on some liquid nitrogen for quick freezing and we're in business ^_~

Other than that, most of my stuff is pretty low-tech. My toolbox is my go-to place when I'm looking for something that can't be done via the different utensils within the kitchen.

Drex Feb 19, 2007 11:39 AM

Oh man, a hot cocoa maker that wouldn't require the microwave would be pretty sweet.

But what makes the PacoJet better than all the other food processors enough that it would cost $3500? I thought a regular ol' KitchenAid was pricey enough. O_O

;_; I dunno.

Well, I'm no body guy, but maybe even if you feel your hands are "cold," your body heat transfer is still warm enough for the scoop to work. You're still that 98.6 degrees something. Just a guess. =/

Those magic bullets that they advertise on TV at 4am. A friend of mine actually bought one, and it's pretty spiffy for parties and drinks. It's like a mini blender with about 2 million different uses.

Because it makes sorbet and ice cream?

By far, the best appliance I own is my morning messiah.

http://www.blackanddeckerappliances....M830_hires.jpg

Without this trusty contraption my mornings would be a goddamn nightmare.

Such a Lust for Revenge! Feb 20, 2007 08:16 AM

Come to think of it I don't use any of this fancy shit. The most handy thing I use is a fucking funnel. About five times a day.

Ceres Feb 21, 2007 02:50 AM

Nothing gets much cooler than my Hello Kitty coffee maker

Bernard Black Feb 21, 2007 02:50 PM

A friend of mine has a Jagermeister toaster; it's bright orange and it actually toasts the logo onto your bread. Breakfast just got more swish...

i don't know if a bottle opener counts but my bf got one from my mom last christmas. it's SO funny! it has sunglasses painted on it and it's mouth is how you open the bottle, and it doesn't sit straight on it's butt. it's this egg shaped thing so when you put it down it looks like it's drunk. lol XD

How about this one?

You should have linked to a WILL IT BLEND? video. :(

(I have to say, I still want one.)
