Want to get a Widescreen, Will My Video Card Support It?

I've been thinking of getting a 22" widescreen LCD monitor. Looking at descriptions of them, it looks like they all have a recommended resolution of 1680x1050.

I've got a GeForce4 Ti 4200 that is kind of old, but since I don't play games, just Internet browsing and watching TV shows and movies, I don't want to upgrade unless I have to. When I go into Display Properties in Windows, I don't see that specific resolution. I see 1600x1024 and 1600x900, but that's as close as it gets.

Does that tell me that my video card wouldn't support the monitor's suggested resolution? Or would it be different if I were to actually plug in a monitor?

Your card can support the resolution. Just have the latest display drivers for the card and it should auto-detect correctly, especially if you connect via DVI.

It should, but if it doesn't (like mine did and I have a 6800) then you can manually create the resolution in the Nvidia control panel (classic panel not the new version) in the Screen Resolutions and Refresh Rates menu. At least this is what I had to do to get it to properly display at 1680x1050
