Raid Over the River (Revolution)

NIBRIS has been so kind as to provide an extensive array of pictures and content of the most delicious sort in regards to their upcoming Revolution title Raid Over the River. The lucky recipients over at Revolution Report have up an extensive 4 page first look into the title.

"The main character of the game is a 40 year-old veteran of the "Sand Storm" operation, named David McBride. He discovers, by pure coincidence, the plans of the "Molayarius" sect which wants to summon a demon by the name of "Bafomet" into existence. By co-operating with one of the members of the sect (who continuously sabotages their actions), David strives to halt Molayarius' plans."

Revolution is getting a shooter... another reason why I'm definitely thinking the Revolution will succeed.

OMFG...

I have absolutely no Idea on what to say about this. It looks awesome. I just hope the first screenshot isn't a gameplay screenshot.

Sadly, it's not. I'm guessing it's artwork that they're using to design everything.

I don't know to be honest, whether this is Revo or DS... some sites say Revo others say DS... who knows.

WraithTwo Mar 13, 2006 07:54 PM

I believe that IGN said that there will be a version for DS and another for Revo, and that the DS would be at E3, but they're not sure if the Revo will be ready in time.

Yeah right now they have cube dev equipment and are trying to get ahold of a rev dev kit. They look like they really are gung ho for Nintendo's system though. I really hope that Nintendo will smile upon small up-start devs like this. Some of the most unique stuff comes from them.

So is this actually first/third person shooter, or is it a vehicle game? If it's just a shooter i dunno if i'd go for it, but i do like driving games.

Looks pretty slick. I'm deffinetly going to at least try this game.

Infernal Monkey Mar 14, 2006 12:40 AM

Well, they've got the name and gameplay style down.

Now they just need helicopters that appear from the side of the screen and stop for NOBODY. "OUTTA THE WAY JERKASS I'M IN A HELICOPTER". Also strange floating barrels of fuel all over the place.

Those graphix are amazing.

I saw that first image and I was like "WOW! That's great! What style! It looks like a painting!" Shortly afterward I noticed it WAS a painting and below it was the ho-hum real screenshot.

Yes, I agree the gameplay style from this game that NO ONE HAS PLAYED
is great.

Just because it came before your birth doesn't mean it doesn't exist. :p

I'm sure that finding that title that fast means SOMETHING!

Umm, I believe he was referring to the fact that we don't know much of anything about Raid Over the Rivers gameplay....

Everyone's played River Raid. It's the law. If you haven't, you should have some injected into your face. DOOT DOOT DOOT DOOT, the Atari would boom. "Haha, some fuel" everyone would say. Then HELICOPTERS.

I remember playing it a good deal on the Intellivision way back when. It was like my younger brother's favorite game at the time. And I have it on an emu now too. :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one who read the thread title and had that game come to mind.

Kilroy Mar 15, 2006 11:03 AM

That actually looks pretty good. Not mind blowing, but then again, not many games has managed to blow my mind. Anywhere. Which I guess my mother is pretty thankful for. Brains can be a bitch getting out of a carpet.

I just wonder what it'll play like. Ikaruga or something like Fireblade... Not that I care, but it would be pretty interesting to see both of them played out on the remote.

That's what happened to me, too. If games on the Revolution (and PS3/360) start looking less like screenshots and more like paintings, I'd be more inclined to be excited about the graphical aspect of the next generation.

EDIT: Come to think of it though, I don't think the second picture is a real screenshot, either.

Agreed. It'd be like cell shading... only... painting shading?

Django Apr 4, 2006 04:34 AM

The game looks really nice, but somewhat empty so a lot has to be done. And it's not in cell shading;) .And it is very simmiliar to the idea of River Raid. I'm looking forward to it, hope i can lay my hands on a beta version....

Are those ingame screenshots? It does hint a level of Revolution's graphical capabilities.

Django Apr 4, 2006 04:45 AM

No, but the second screen can tell you pretty much how the game will look like

RABicle Apr 4, 2006 06:31 AM

No it can't Clarke Kent. The second screen is the kind of promotional render PC games have had for the past decade or so.

This game is little more than idea and as cool as it could turn out to be I don't see myself paying full price for a vertical shooter. It better offer a little more.

Tama8-chan Apr 4, 2006 08:17 AM

holy shit, that screen looks like shit.

i'll take the artwork, thanks.

NovaX Apr 4, 2006 09:28 AM

I agree, even if it isn't a screen. That sand looks especially shit.

That looks fucking amazing, I can't wait until it's released for the Revolution.

They better not fuck up the pixels or I'm going to be pretty pissed off.

FatsDomino Apr 4, 2006 11:26 AM

Actually I think a game would look neat if they actually used the style of that coverart/old atari look. Who's with me?
