Weird dub on Spike TV
I'm watching late night Spike TV right now and I came across this samurai looking movie that's dubbed in English. The thing is, the dub does that switch between L and R that japanese people do. Instead of "ladies," they say "radies." So I got to thinking this was a comedy movie or a spoof of some sort. Or maybe it's like MXC where they make up their own fake dialogue.
Then I asked my friend what it was so he turned to it on his tv and he told me he recognized the movie as Zatoichi, which he claims is a serious movie. If it's a serious movie and it's been dubbed for American release, then why do the L and R switch? Isn't that a bit offensive? You don't see anime being translated into English and having the L and R thing being done. The voices are obviously American voice actors and not Japanese so they can't be doing it unintentionally. Anyone know why they did this?
