I may have just seen one of the greatest movies ever...

But it's a bit early to tell.

Seriously though, this is the best "fish-out-of-water" children's fantasy film I've seen since, well, childhood. Anyone who wants to relive Labyrinth or Dark Crystal -- but actually stay entertained throughout -- watch this NOW.

Um... Is there more to this or are we supposed to guess?

Cellius Jan 5, 2007 11:57 PM

I think he's talking about Joe Dirt.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Jan 5, 2007 11:57 PM

Rocky Balboa. Duh.

Argarg. Fixed.

No. Hard Pass. Jan 5, 2007 11:59 PM

It's Gaiman and Henson Company. What did you expect, mediocrity?

Drex Jan 6, 2007 12:00 AM

Looks interesting enough, but what's the premise? And why haven't I heard about it? Is it a small-studio small advertising budget thing, or am I just out of the loop?

Motsy Jan 6, 2007 12:03 AM

The premise is basically Gaiman's and McKean's take on Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz -- "fish-out-of-water" stories. Nothing original, but sharply written and lots of visual flair.

I saw that in my campus theatre. It was pretty good. Written/Directed by Jim Henson (Muppets).

Its about a girl who feels out of place with herself and her family. She suddenly finds herself in a different world, being hunted because she looks like the princess of that world, who has run off. She has to find a way back, which is more difficult when she finds out that the missing princess has actually taken her place in her world and is slowly getting rid of any ways for her to get back.

I wouldnt say it was the greatest movie, but it was animated in a way that caught your eye, and at least it was entertaining. Definitely well worth the $2 my campus theatre charges though. :p

Motsy Jan 6, 2007 12:26 AM

Actually, the movie was written Neil Gaiman and directed by Dave McKean. Jim Hensons's been dead for over 10 years, though the Henson Company put up the money for the movie.

Temari Jan 6, 2007 12:48 AM

Oh, thats right. I knew that the Henson company was involved somehow, and no matter how hard I squinted, I couldnt see on the movie poster above what it was. And I'm too lazy to look it up. Bah. Silly me. :p

Mirror Mask was alright, but not as good as I had hoped. It was billed as the next Labyrinth - one of my favorite movies as a kid - so I think my expectations may have been a bit too inflated. It's visually mindblowing, but the story certainly leaves something to be desired.
