Maison Ikkoku
My favorite manga of all time is Maison Ikkoku. Even though it was written in the 80's, I think it is still just about the funniest manga ever. Yotsuba&! is a close second, though. Does anyone else read Maison Ikkoku? My wife turned me onto it about a year ago and since then, I've bought all 15 volumes. It is a true manga classic.

It's a good series and one of my favourites as well. You should also check out Urusei Yatsura (Lum) and Ranma, both by the same author.

I've read the complete Ranma 1/2 series. I love that as well. I've read as much of Inu Yasha as I could take, but I think it is being dragged on too long. I've never read Urusei Yatsura, but my wife has read it. She says that she hasn't seen it in English. I'll have to look for it.

Greatest romantic comedy ever. I've never watched the anime, but the omission of Nikaido didn't sound well.
The manga, however, is still superb. Funny, mature, touching and sweet. Excellent cast of characters, most of them fleshed out wonderfully. The humor is a mix of warm, Takahashi-wacky and intelligent, the setting and mood completely irresistible. Easily Takashi's finest work and anyone who likes a feel-good manga should read it all. I've read the old 14-volume Viz release, but am so happy they've rereleased the whole series in its original 15 volume format and am actually still trying to save up so I can buy the whole set. There's a lot of manga I like and enjoy, but Maison Ikkoku remains one of the few titles I truly love (others include NausicaƤ, Dance till Tomorrow and Peach Girl). |
Maison Ikkoku still remains in the top three of the anime series I've seen. I actually see no faults in any part of the whole project, everything just works out seamlessly.
Even that cheesy 80's pop music. I should check out that manga some day, even though I'm not exactly a manga reading person. |
Oh go on. You like Yotsuba too. And since you like Maison Ikkoku anime, I'm sure you'll love the manga. Just remember it has a few characters and incidents not in the anime and vice verca.

Anyone know whether Viz Video ever continued the series? Last thing I heard was the dub version was canceled and the subtitled was going to be a limited edition. Damn, I fell in love with the series for the first 10 episodes alone, and that's all I ever was able to get before Viz announced it's cancellation... :(
I don't suppose this is on DVD? Oh well, I guess there's always the manga. :) |
There's a bunch of DVD boxsets (8, it seems) for it, I assume they finished releasing it.

That'd good to know! Haven't really heard anything since around 1996, so, it has been awhile... ;)
