Nihon Falcom Inc.

Creating seperate threads for every Falcom game pobably isn't going to work out. This thread is to discuss any Falcom game ever made.

Currently I'm addicted to Legend of Heroes VI Second Chapter. I didn't get past the prologue yet, and didn't play Legend of Heroes VI itself, but the game seem huge and fun.

The game I played before this one was Ys: The Oath in Felghana, which must be the best platform-RPG-action game ever created.

So how about you? Do you like Falcom games?

I just wish more of their games would get localized. I've got Ys VI for PS2, and I've played a bunch of the others. I don't see how a company that makes such great games can get such little publicity over here while Square Soft can build hype without actually releasing anything.

Yes, I like Falcom games.

"Zwei" is a cute fun little action RPG with a great soundtrack.

"VM Japan + Power Up Kit" is a fun strategy RPG with a great soundtrack.

What new games are Falcom working on now? The newest that I know of is Xanadu Next, released last year.

They just released Legend of Heroes VI Second Chapter (on 03/09/06), which is a standalone sequel to Legend of Heroes VI. It's a great, great game. My current avatar/signature is in LoHVISC style.

I'd also vouch for more localized Falcom games - they are damn good and heavily underrated. I'm quite a new Ys fan, having played through Ys I & II Complete, Ys VI and Ys Oath in Felghana and loving all of it.

I'm also close to finishing Legend of Heroes VI - Sora no Kiseki FC (the final dungeon area with the annoying treasure chest monsters) and will hopefully move onto SC soon.

EDIT - Just out of interest, does anyone play Vantage Master Online v2?

I own Legend of Heroes for PSP, but I don't have a PSP.

Ys VI was my favorite game from last year...So simple (in a Zelda 3/Crystalis-type way), but so refined. And fun...I still rush through Boss Rush mode a few times every week or so. Killer music as well...As usual. Hopefully, Felghana will make it over.

The LOH VI games have wonderful character designs. I'd like to play them in English someday.

I'm hoping the PSP Gurumin announcement will lead to a localized version. Not holding my breath though.

Just curious: What kind of game is Star Trader? It's an old-ass PC game (late 80's) that I haven't seen a thing for, outside of certain music tracks.

I'm mostly a fan of Falcom's music...I own actual copies of more than half of their entire CD catalogue (not just the FMS series...The whole catalogue). Their actual games have been hit or miss generally, outside of Ys VI.

Never heard of the game before =o Seems to be a horizontal 2D-space-shooter.

I stumbled across Ys III for SNES sometime last year, and realized that the sidescrolling action RPG was a flavor that i hadn't had enough of (only similar game off the top of my head would be Faxanadu). It felt quite different, and the music wasn't half bad either. i emulated a couple of the other installments, and they seem to be rather amusing as well.

if it's not much to ask, would someone mind explaining the different types of falcom games outside of Ys?

The most common onces:

Legend of Heroes - Tactical RPG
Xanadu - The normal RPG
Gurumin - Platform with a strange twist
VM Japan - Some strategy-game

Magic Mar 16, 2006 12:35 PM

What about Legacy of the Wizard? Wasn't that part of the Legend of Heroes series? It was more of an action/puzzle/dungeon RPG.

Grawl Mar 16, 2006 12:52 PM

It seems that's a game of Falcom too. See, so many games of Falcom I don't know of.

I need to collect them all ._.

Gakineko Mar 16, 2006 11:46 PM

oh yeah, LotW (NES). i played that when i was a kid. that game was pretty genius. there were 6 different characters or so, and a giant dungeon to navigate. due to the abilities of the characters, there were some constraints on where they could/couldn't go, so each of them had an area of the dungeon that needed to be scavenged by themselves specifically. i really dont know what i would compare it to... goonies II (NES) is as close as i can get at the moment...

it's definitely worth a shot if you're into 8-bit.

Are the later LoH games really Tactical/Strategy RPG's? The first 3 LoH games are all regular turn-based games (I forgot I had LoH 2 for the Duo and LoH 3 for the Saturn before this thread).

Magic Mar 17, 2006 02:43 AM

Yeah, there're a bunch of Falcom games for the NES including Ys I and II and Faxanadu.

I've been a Falcom fan ever since I played the original Ys Books 1&2 on my cousin's duo system. I remember being amazed by actual voice acting in an RPG and the music in the game. My most recent purchase from them was the game they just released: Legend of Heroes 6 SC

My favorite game released by them the past few years would be Ys: Oath in Felghana. They managed to mix 2D sidescrolling platform action very well into a 3D world, and the music is amazing. This is the best remake ever, period.

I need to start exploring these games, it really does sound like something I could get into. Particularly the strategy RPGs, I can't get enough of those.

Grawl Mar 18, 2006 08:13 AM

I agree on the Ys series, they are very hard, but never impossible. The last boss probably caused me to say a few bad works. And not to mention the boss before that:

Spoiler:
Which would explode when he was finally sliced into pieces by Adol :( It took me quite some tries to get to that point, and then it just kills me.
