Deleted songs (iPod)
 

I accidentally deleted all my songs on my iPod when I hooked it up to my brother's computer. Is there a way of retrieving it?

Hook it back up to the computer that holds your itunes library.

That's the problem, I'm back from school, so my computer is somewhere else. Is it possible to retrieve it?

You could drill down into it as a USB hard drive and look in the various folders that it contains to see if it still has the files on it. It's possible that it didn't delete the files that were on it, just marked them as overwritable {I doubt this is the case but hey, I doubt there are any other options available}.

Yes you can.

Just disable auto-update option in the iTunes of that other computer.

No, the update options are stored on the iPod, not on the computer. You have to disable auto-update on your iPod by using iTunes. Then those settings stay on your iPod for any other computer with iTunes you plug it into.

And if you really want to know, all your songs are gone.

I just realized you're right, because after I made that post I was looking in iTunes for what I thought was there. And I couldn't find it.

Trigunnerz, your songs are no longer on your iPod. You'll have to wait until you can plug it back into your own computer.


Edit: Wait a second. Trigunnerz, when you plugged your iPod into your brother's computer, didn't his iTunes give you a message like, "This iPod is associated with another iTunes" (or something to that effect)? Didn't it ask if if you wanted to replace the contents of your iPod with the contents of your brother's iTunes?

This is why you should READ dialogs that come up when you plug something in. Whenever you plug your iPod into a computer running an iTunes library that isn't yours, it ASKS you flat out if you want to overwrite the songs on your iPod with the ones on theirs. If you say yes, surprise surprise, yo' shit's gone, nigga! Say no, and it won't. Pretty straightforward.

Haha, I edited my last post at the exact same time as Cless posted. We're essentially saying the same thing.

But you can plug in an iPod with that setting into a computer with iTunes and not have it do an auto-update. I think the way that works is to have iTunes already open when you plug the iPod in and hold down CTRL while plugging it in.

Ya, I learned my lesson. I should have read those messagse. Heh.

While we're at it, is there a way to export your music from your iPod into your computer?

I don't believe so. At least not through any normal iTune methods.

Yes. It is a bit more of a pain with an iPod than with other MP3 players, but it's possible. Look on Google for how to do it. If you set things up properly, an iPod can be used to transfer files just like any other USB disk.

Are we talking about tranfering music or music files?

Because if we're talking about files, then it's really simple. The iPod can be used as a data storage device.

Not like just any data, but like actual music files that are played on the iPod. I can use my iPod as a external hard drive, but I can't play music if it's in that format.

Unless the iPod stores soundwaves, I don't really see what the difference is.

If you loaded music onto your iPod to listen to, then it can be taken off in the same manner you would take off any file.

You CAN browse where all the song's stored when you import them using iTunes. Make sure you turn hidden file off. But then you run into another problem: iTunes likes to rename the audio data and scatter it around in different folders.

If that trouble you, I suggest using EphPod to export your music.

XPlay is another program that will give you exporting options even when your plugged into another PC.

iPodAgent is another program.
