Gamespot Feature - How to boost your Gamerscore

I just saw this feature on Gamespot, and thought that it's actually quite useful. I mean, I personally only have a pitiful 350 points right now, as I play almost solely online. Sure, the points are meaningless, but if I can boost my score from 350 to 6000 easily, why not?

When I find some time, I just might go out and rent some of those games for cheap, which I would never have played otherwise.

Useful how? If you can pinpoint the exact purpose of getting points before playing the game for fun then maybe it is useful, but you can't.

Closed.

This, coming from the guy with 5000+ points... I hope you were being sarcastic. There's no argument really, the feature just tells of some easy way to earn points. Fun if you want to compare with friends.

Grundlefield Earth Mar 11, 2006 09:42 PM

And your point about my points is what? Look at my games? Does it look like I rented solely for points? No. It's called I own all those games and played for fun and then got achievements for replayabilty.

There is no reason to strive for the highest overall points because you don't get anything. And having high points based off of sports games does not make you better then your friends anyway because they will just look at your gamertag and see that, and laugh.

I really can't understand people's obsession with scoring points like that. Like BZ says, it's fucking pointless. Nobody will think you're any more of an awesome dude, just because you have a couple of thousand gamer points.

Kids these days have no sense of what actually matters in life any more.

vuigun Mar 14, 2006 12:24 PM

The thing that I don't like about gamerscores is the fact that they can be a way to be elitist.

So now the kids that go on LIVE can say, "I have a better gamerscore then you, punk!". Also, that would be a way of knowing who's more of a newbie and taking advantage of them.

Of course, I could be just thinking about the matter a little too hard.

Gechmir Mar 14, 2006 12:34 PM

So. You can't turn these points in for some abstract amount of dollars? Which could be put toward said Xbox360?...

What's the god-damn point?

I POSTED AGAIN ;D I'll be level 70 in no time! Just you wait, (big name poster here)! Then who'll be the loser?! :O

Surely the amount of points you have matters not if you're actually better at the game than they are?

I play a lot of Battlefield 2 on Live. I've picked up a few medals (Thereby advancing my rank) in the course of playing it but never felt the need to cheat to acquire more and artificially go up a rank. I find it hilarious when there are kids in the game who have boosted themselves up to an unnaturally high rank because they lack the skills to play at that level and get taken apart by everyone.

The whole idea of having rankings in online games is so you can be matched against people with a similar skill level to your own. This makes online gaming more fun. If I had to play against people a lot better than myself all the time I wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much. Spending all your time getting killed is no fun and you never improve.

Seriously, why waste your time?

Then there's always the folks who purposefully delevel so they will always win against lesser opponents.

Serious business.

Some people just have too much time on their hands.

And were probably abused by their parents as kids, giving rise to this desire to beat people who present no challenge. I'm of the opinion that anyone who values winning over enjoying the game was fucked by their dad, uncle or possibly both.

God, I hate Jeff Gerstmann. And BZ is completely right here, what a fucking stupid reason to play those games. The points are just a tiny number. They don't even factor into your world ranking or trueskill stuff in any of the games on the system anyway. So what's the point?

And I like how the man's a fucking idiot and lists shit in this article that takes longer than Full Auto and says that shitty Twisted Metal ripoff is not the best idea for getting points fast.

I rented it, and got 890 points in 5 hours. What a fucking retarded easy ass game. And what a waste of 10 dollars. Fuck you Sega.

Grundlefield Earth Mar 15, 2006 01:22 PM

Get the real underrated sega published game, Condemned. Such a great fucked up game.

Oh waiit, you said you did not like those kind of games. Too creeeeeeeeeepy

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Mar 16, 2006 02:05 PM

I get scared because I'm a huge wussy, this is true.

WHen I played a friends copy and got to a part in the first stage where some crazy fucker pops up behind you and nails you in the head with something I just about shit my pants.

russ Mar 16, 2006 04:16 PM

Hah you sissy, go back to playing Kirby's Fairy Friend.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Mar 16, 2006 05:26 PM

How about I go back to punching you in the face?

<3

russ Mar 16, 2006 05:30 PM

Yeah you do that. My sideburns and chin hair provide adequate protection against your sissy punches, such that it almost tickles.
