Company of Heroes: Official Thread

Alright, now this is a good RTS game. I myself am not a huge RTS fan because multiplayer RTS is usually waaaaay to fast-paced for my play style. I play Age of Empires 2 at LAN parties alot, and played Warcraft 3 some. However, this is a game that I really can get into. If you don't know much about the game, read up on it here -> Company of Heroes <-

So has anybody picked this game up yet? Any impressions?

I personally tried the Single-Player demo, and I throughly enjoyed the campaign levels as well as the skirmish rounds. The broad range of tactics, the strategy of defenses and quick offenses, and the resource collection come together for some very intriguing gameplay. There is a bit of micromanaging, about as much as I usually like. Having good defenses is a challenge, and I really enjoy working on that. Iplan to pick up the game soon, as a few friends and family might be LANing with this over Christmas holiday.

I picked it up about 2 - 3 months ago and I must say it is fantastic. I like the realism applied to the whole thing since micromanaging comes in as a valuable skill to have since enemy will pound on your doors relentessly (I mean, you're just capturing a gas field at the first 5 minutes and enemy attacks you with a Panzer). You can also use ANY weapon scattered on the battlefield so it's fun to just grab a MG42 with your engineers and have your way at incoming enemies.

However, the Hero system in the game is one that kept me on my feet. Since three branches of each faction have different learning curves, stretegy managing these factions becomes vital as the game progresses. It's relentless, fast-paced, mind game that is very beautiful.

Just picked the game up after getting a Christmas bonus... Now I'm staying up way too late again. Played through an annihilation round on easy and won. Normal is just a bit too tough for me yet. This game has alot of intricasies that need to be explored before you can really do a good job against the AI.

There is quite a bit of micromanaging, such as tanks and making sure they aren't getting toasted, grenade throwing, and ALOT of deploying. It's a blast, and hectic as hell. Amazing stuff.

Seems like I'm the only one posting here but oh well.

So I've been trying out the online mode which is really amazing. I've also been trying some new maps from http://planetcoh.gamespy.com/ which seems to be the only place that has custom maps. Also, their is an amazing wiki for COH on relic's web page (the developer). http://wiki.reliccommunity.com/Company_of_Heroes

Needless to say this game is amazing and I can't seem to stop playing :). Anyone playing this online, and what's your handle/alias?

I have played a bit of it, but it ran slow on my computer, so I gave up on it... :( I still have it on my HD though so maybe in the future, I will try it again.

I play often on a MacBook Pro via Boot Camp, and I run fine with a Core Duo 2Ghz, 1GB RAM, and X1600 with 128MB video. Turn down the video settings. It really doesn't look too bad if you take the time to tweak it.

Anyone else here play multiplayer with CoH? I've been doing well with ranked matches and its been a tough hall getting to be good enough to compete. RTS, I love the genre, but I play it like crap.

Would love to know if anyone plays this online. Look for Dayvon in the Sword channel.
