Nintendo sets multiple sales records

Wow, half a million DS units in a week? That is extremely impressive.

Well, what would you expect from a kickass console and a kickass handheld?

Nintendo has really outdone themselves this time. This is just crazy.

Still sad that I don't have a Wii yet....

But, that's ok, my DS will keep me busy! ^.^

This is insane.

So much Nintendo income. It looks like the "cube slump" is over for good.

Those DS sales in Europe are especially insane considering NoE seems to be on a quest to kill the thing rather than promote it.

The Wii also broke the launch record here. :]

NINTENDO’S Wii CONSOLE
BREAKS LAUNCH SALES RECORDS

32,901 units sold in the first four days

Australia, Melbourne, December 14, 2006 – Nintendo is pleased to announce that in the first four days of sale, 32,901* consumers have purchased Wii™.

This means the Wii has officially broken the Australian record for the biggest launch of a video game system in history.
To put that in perspective, the complete failure GameCube, since its launch in 2002, has sold less than 150,000 units.

Despite my monetary support for the PS3 at launch, I'm really really excited that the Wii and DS are doing so well. I've been a Nintendo fan from my first console, so it's awesome that they're finally regaining momentum from what they've lost since the end of SNES's wonderyears.

It's really only a matter of time before Nintendo regains their rightful place on the throne of video games, especially with numbers like this. I'm glad too, because there was nowhere else for gaming in general to go since graphics can only get so realistic before nobody cares anymore.

My sole regret is that it took this long to get the job done, but at last it's finally happening.

Here's hoping they don't end up like the Gamecube. Gamecube's prospects looked good on paper when it was first released but their over-reliance on a few hits released too far apart cost them.

Nintendo needs to create AAA games consistently, or churn out games that take advantage of the Mii system. If they can't handle too many games at once, they could delegate for eg. F-Zero Wii to Sega. They just have to make sure they don't give their franchises to the wrong hands (Namco Starfox...gr...)

There's more to the short-term celebrations, but for now, congrats Nintendo. May you kick some ass this time around.

Whether they fail miserably or sell a billion consoles they'll still profit more than either Sony or Microsoft. Even with a shitty console like the 'Cube Nintendo still made a profit every quarter.

Anywho, it's pretty pathetic that selling 32,000 consoles is considered a record anywhere. Oh, Australia.

QFT

Yeah, Nintendo deserves this for being risky, innovative and down right cool with these past 2 consoles. They give great gameplay experiences that you can't find anywhere else. Right now, they have a bright future ahead what with games like Metroid 3 and Mario in the near future, not to mention titles like Project HAMMER, Fire Emblem, Mario Party, Wario Ware, Mario Strikers, and possibly quite a few Mii games. They've got alot of sweet games coming down the pipe.

If anything, I hope they use all this profit to enlarge their software division, so they can have a new Nintendo game coming at least every month, and also they can better promote their franchises and products. Like remember when Mario Bros 3 was like everywhere? Yeah, lets see that for the Wii.

lol, there are still lineups for the Wii around winnipeg. I asked the guy at EB games today how often that happens, and he says everytime they get a shipment, and he has to turn away countless numbers of people when they're out. He also said that they've only had one lineup for the PS3, and that was launch day.

I thought about getting in that line, but i have other stuff i need to spend money on right now.
