Firefox's "I'm Feeling Lucky"
 

Normally when I want to go to a website, I just type the website into the location bar, and Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" will take me to the first site it finds, which is usually the correct one. I can still search like this for single word names.

ie. I type in gamefaqs or hotmail, and firefox takes me directly to the site

My problem is that when I now type in two word names

ie. gamingforce forums or ign games, firefox says the url is invalid and will not load

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? And yes, my keyword.URL in about:config is set to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&btnI=&q=

Why don't you just type "www.gaming" in your address bar, then down arrow key, then enter (assuming you already have www.gamingforce.com/forums in your cache)?? way faster than go to a website and type keywords.

Well for speeds sake, I'd rather just type out the words for websites and then use the history bar once I've been to the site. So does nobody know how to fix it so that firefox recognizes two or more word searches?

Aren't you supposed to put an "+" instead of a space?

Also, is there a reason you don't just use bookmarks?

Bookmarks exist for a reason.

Why would I want to have to select through a list of bookmarks when I can just type in a search? Also say I want to search for a wikipedia entry and type in, wikipedia final fantasy, that would take me directly to the final fantasy entry in wikipedia, which I would not want to bookmark. And no, a + doesn't work.

Are you kidding me? How long does it seriously take you to click a menu, find GFF and let go of your mouse button?

This is a whole other level of laziness.

EDIT: BTW if I type "gamingforce" into my address bar and hit enter, I am brought to the Gamingforce mainpage. If I type "gamingforce forums" in, it takes me to the forum mainpage. lol.

Wow why do you have to answer based on what you want. I want to reset firefox to what I am used to if that's ok with you galen and I already gave you a good example with wikipedia as to why I would like the multiple word search function. This is the help desk not a place for needless trolling.

Anyways, here's some additional info on my problem. It seems whenever I type in a word, firefox automatically adds a .com to the end of it and takes me to the site. Problem is, some sites are also .org and .net. And it still won't recognize spaces between words and perform the I'm Feeling Lucky function.

You could always...

gamingforce [ctrl+enter]

...but that takes you to the main page, but that doesn't really matter, the forums are just a click away.

The + worked for me.

Which version of Firefox do you have?

I'm running firefox 2.0, and the search function stopped working this morning. Firefox seems to just add .com at the end of my searches now, instead of using Google's I'm Feeling Lucky

Try reinstalling Firefox.

So, what did you do between last night and this morning when the function quit?

Here's a way to restore Google's "I'm feeling Lucky" as the default search option:

1. Open a new tab in Firefox 2.x.
2. In the address bar, type "about:config" (without the quotes) then press Enter.
3. In the *Filter* field, type "keyword".
4. Locate the option *keyword.enabled* and set its value to "true" by double-clicking on it.
4. Locate the option *keyword.URL* and double-click on it.
5. In the input box, replace the old value by this new URL:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&b...eling+Lucky&q=
6.Press Enter to finish.

Now if you type "wikipedia final fantasy" in the address bar, you should get the page you want !

I'm having the exact same problem as the OP (only I don't go to this site) and my settings are already set to what you said. Also, the rest of you guys are bad people who don't realize the awesomeness of I'm Feeling Lucky. Stop being so belligerent.
