College Basketball 2006-2007
The NCAA Basketball season is now in full swing and it looks to be yet another exciting year of college ball. This is doubly true for me, what with my beloved Pittsburgh Panthers ranked number two in all of the land.
Truthfully, the Panthers immense success has surprised me. I would have never expected a basketball powerhouse to come out of this area, a city without a strong basketball history, and without a professional franchise (unless you count the CBA X-plosion!). But, here we are. Anyway, enough about my team. There are a bunch of great looking teams this year. Of course there are the #1 UCLA Bruins (coached by former Pitt coach Ben Howland =D) and the North Carolina Tar Heels look to be a top contender once again. So, what do you anticipate out of the current season? |
Yeah, so the Panthers have had an alright season so far, losing a couple to highly ranked opponents. If we can make it through the conference with only a couple more losses I'd be really happy.
And boy does UCLA look dangerous! =o |
Now that college football is done, my sights turn to college basketball. I don't really have a favorite team that ever makes waves, but I have my eye on a few. What happened to perennial powerhouse Duke, though? First the loss to Virginia Tech, then tonight getting torched by Georgia Tech. They couldn't hold on to the ball in the last 10 minutes at all, and Coach K hasn't lost his first 2 ACC games for ages. I'll grant that Duke is overrated this year, but they're still supposed to be good. I saw no fire or spark there, not when they were coming back, not when they were falling down. It's like they were just sorta there to run around and be run around.
And how about this last weekend, with like 5 or 6 of the top 10 teams getting upset? |
Jan 10th: one of the most embarrassing home losses in the history of Maryland basketball. If you want numbers, here's all you need to know:
22%. From the floor. ;_; But yeah, it's college hoops time, yo. |
How 'bout that beat down that my Jayhawks put on OSU last night (I know, I have heard all the ORU and Depaul jokes out there)
|
So Maryland I suppose redeems themselves somewhat by defeating the formerly undefeated Clemson. Good stuff.
Meanwhile, other Mayland (my Lady Terps) got their asses handed to them for their first loss. :( But I suppose women's basketball doesn't have a place here. I only really started following them last year since, you know, they won... |
In other news, I only caught the third overtime of the Texas-Oklahoma State game, but what an ending. Those were some great clutch plays.
|
UCLA was upset bigtime last night. Stanford staged a massive comeback to beat them right at the end. Great game.
|
So my Terps handed Duke their fourth straight loss yesterday, matching their worst losing skid in 11 years. Both teams are struggling this season, but it wstill would've been a fun game to watch (from my end anyway). We rarely beat Duke at home. I wish I went. =/
|
Pitt's worst lost ever at The Pete. Ouch.
|
Georgetown-Pittsburgh game yesterday was awesome. G-town won after getting an insurmountable lead late. But that second half was intense and fun to watch. I wish I went to that game. Speaking of going to games, I wish I could get to the MD/NC game today to cheer my Terps on. :p
Also, #1 and #2 coming up soon. Badgers and THE Ohio State University... should be a fun one too. It's been a great weekend for college basketball. |
In a ridiculous series of games, all the higher-seeded ACC teams lost to their lower-seeded opponents, including my Maryland to the 12th-seed Miami. :(
Anyway, there's been no post here in March yet, and I'm getting mad... |
