Motherboard I have? For Videocard...
 

How do I find out what kinda motherboard I have...

Reason is 'cause I wanna upgrade my videocard- but I have no clue what my old computer can handle... it's a cicero 6130, 2GB process pentium, 516 ram, hmmmz and it originally came with a NVidia Geforce 4 MX440...

bleh any suggestions... also 'cause I heard some motherboards work better for certain brands than others

You can use a program like Everest to identify your motherboard, but it's difficult if your PC is pre-built as they tend to use generic motherboards. However you can find out what bus your graphics card uses, whether it's PCI or AGP, and buy something accordingly.

Okay I'll try the program now... how do I find out whether I can use PCI or AGP?

Another thing, is it advisable to upgrade my computer at all before using a better card? And what kinda card should I use... I'm probably not gonna go for something over 128bit since it's kinda old

Also, I'm thinking of upgrading my RAM, not sure what kind or what I should look for

if its geforce mx then it has to be AGP... i think 7950 gx2 was the last best agp card released.

So then it's a AGP slot? BTW, I doubt a 7950 gx2 would work well with this computer... I just need this computer to work smoothly with some online games (no nothing like WOW or anything)... so what's the best suggestion for a videocard for this computer?

It's advisable to upgrade your CPU if you intend to upgrade your motherboard, otherwise your CPU becomes the limiting factor and your graphics card won't be able to reach its potential. There are plenty of good AGP cards out there (i.e. nVidia 7800GS or ATI X800), but the AGP bus is dying fast, so I question the usefulness of such an upgrade.

Everest should also tell you what type of memory your motherboard supports. Having more memory never hurts.

Considering you're using a GF4 MX440, you would see a huge performance boost going to something like an nvidia 6600GT,6800 or a 7300. Expect to spend a lil over $100 and you will have to keep in mind that when you do decide to upgrade your CPU or Motherboard in the future that you will not be able to keep this video card.

Video card slots have changed fairly recently. Everything has shifted from AGP slot to PCI Express so very few new motherboards rightfully won't have AGP slots.

That's also why I recommend those cards for a lil over $100. You know from a gaming standpoint that you aren't going to be getting a whole lot of use on this thing unless you continue to play older games for quite sometime.
