Subforum link display on forumhome

I've enabled the setting to display subforum links on the forumhome (i.e. index.php).

What do you think? Convenient? Cluttered?

packrat Dec 1, 2006 11:08 AM

Heh, I think I just noticed this as soon as you changed it.

It looks all right.
My only qualm(which isn't even a big one) is that at that size of font, it is hard to tell whether that is standard white text or blue link text, with just a glance.

As for convenience, all it really does is reduce the needed clicks by one. Although technically that makes it more convenient, have we really become that lazy? =P

Drex Dec 1, 2006 11:09 AM

I personally think it's more cluttered than it is useful, but that's just me. I say give it a shot for a few days then have a poll on it. If we (as a community majority) decide to keep it, cool; if we don't want to keep it, cool.

Looks like ass on the lite set.

I was about to say the same thing. The other subforums are just one click away.

If we're gonna have a poll, I'd vote against this. Everything looks unbalanced now, with CC having 10 subforums and the rest having 0 or just 1 sub.

nazpyro Dec 1, 2006 11:23 AM

I think it's a bit cluttered looking. :/ But I do like that it is there. Maybe it was put into a dropdown menu/area of its own? I don't know how that would turn out either unless I saw it too though.

Bigblah Dec 1, 2006 11:27 AM

Maybe I could attempt to code it as a dropdown, like the one you see when you click on "View Posts" on the navigation bar. So it'll only show up as a triangular icon next to the parent forum.

Drex Dec 1, 2006 11:32 AM

It is nice seeing from the front page which subforum has new posts since I last checked. That would be one of the positive/useful aspects I see in it.

OmagnusPrime Dec 1, 2006 11:56 AM

I like the concept, however, the icon it's using looks really ropey and out of place as a result. Makes the index page look a bit shonky.

Krelian Dec 1, 2006 12:00 PM

C-c-c-clutter.

I'm honestly not a fan, and it's not just because of the white artifacts around the little icons. Too much text.

I agree it looks a little cluttered. =/

Is there a way to indent it or something as a forum name, so it's visually noticeable that there's a subforum below?

I dunno. I suck. I am sorry.

Bigblah Dec 1, 2006 01:13 PM

Sass has spoken!

Conclusion: CLUTTER

I'll try getting it to show as a popup menu tomorrow, turning it off now.

While I didn't get to witness the original version of this, I'm looking forward to seeing the dropdown menu. I think I just might like that.

FatsDomino Dec 3, 2006 04:42 AM

Yeah, same here. Anything added to the forums is always exciting. =)

FatsDomino Dec 7, 2006 12:00 PM

Excellent! =D

So now that that's been done how does this idea sound? =)))

Ooohh cool! I like it. Do I get the assist for suggesting the dropdown? :D
