About the PM inbox..

Can we increase the max inbox limit up a notch? Say, an extra hundred or two? I know we can delete the older messages and all, but it takes great determination to hit DELETE to all those messages, you know? Plus, you staff members gets over a thousand messages for your inbox capacity while we get a puny 400 max cap. ;___;

Grawl Nov 30, 2006 03:35 PM

How about you back the thing up, empty it and then move on?

Scarletdeath Nov 30, 2006 03:40 PM

My files on my HD is very poorly organized. If I were to store it elsewhere, I probably couldn't find it when I need it later on. Why store it elsewhere if we can leave them in the inbox where it belongs? Not to mention that it's very well organized as it is in there.

..That's assuming the admins would increase the capacity. =\

Soluzar Nov 30, 2006 03:51 PM

400 is a lot of PMs though. It's a few more than most forums allow, I don't mind telling you. I've been to plenty of sites where they offer 50, and that's a tight squeeze. You can fill that up in about a month of heavy messaging.

Kolba Nov 30, 2006 03:54 PM

Stop being so popular.

Scarletdeath Nov 30, 2006 03:56 PM

Not to mention that I never store sent items, since they add to the total limit. For those members that doesn't delete sent items, that's only 200 of the incoming messages available for storage, assuming they reply once to each. I know GFF has plenty of features better than other forums, but I think prior to the crash, we had around 600 or so for each standard member. Not sure, can't recall..

[edit] @ Kolba: More like stop sending other people messages =p
I'm sure the popularity issue applies to Capi, since he has the same problem.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Nov 30, 2006 06:45 PM

Okay, not to be a bitch or anything, and I am really sorry for coming off like a cunt here, but uh. Why should they up the limit just because you can't organize your files?

I mean, alright, I am a bad example, but I tend to back them up in the txt format in a PM subfolder. I have no trouble with the 400 limit, and thats at peak times like at Christmas. I can't fathom why one member would need more than a 400 limit, you know?

=/

Roph Nov 30, 2006 07:08 PM

1. Backup all messages to a text file
2. Delete all messages
3. PM the contents of that text file to yourself
4. ????
5. Profit!!

Bigblah Nov 30, 2006 11:34 PM

I don't even need to prepare a solution for this, since vBulletin 3.5 already provides three different types of PM backups.

Also, if you can't keep it on your computer, I really can't help you there since this forum has crashed more often than my own hard drives.

Scarletdeath Dec 1, 2006 02:17 AM

Actually, Sass, I see your point. I think I'm the only member that needs the space limit upped anyway.

And damn, Roph just gave me a solution that just might work.

And thanks anyway Blah. No point since I'm the only one requesting, plus the crash part. =\

Fail. vBulletin has a character limit you know. Though you can always email yourself the text file.

Surprisingly enough, I read "PM" as "email" and already did exactly what you said.

Sarag Dec 1, 2006 03:38 AM

Wow, and I remember when people were pretty content to have a 50 message capacity.

Just delete some of your cyber sessions, you'll be fine.

map car man words telling me to do things Dec 1, 2006 04:11 AM

I would also like to point out the over thousand messages capacity staff has is hardly used for recreation.
I WISH I'd get a non staff related PM for once (well ok, there was Zeph's PM for Secret Santa, I guess that counts).

I thought the same thing. Great minds think alike.

I hardly ever get staffy PMs. :(

OmagnusPrime Dec 1, 2006 12:01 PM

"I can't be arsed to go through and delete old messages" is hardly a good reason for increasing the limit. The one we have at present is pretty darned generous so there's no good reason to do so now is there.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Dec 1, 2006 07:35 PM

As Scarlet said, I wouldn't mind seeing the PM Message limit increased, but that's really only because I'm a pack rat.

Miles Dec 3, 2006 01:59 AM

For special favors I could increase ones limit. >_> <_<

Xardion Dec 3, 2006 03:09 AM

Not everyone knows of furry culture and terminology.
