Procrastination

I've found myself trying to delay projects, essays, or any other type of work that doesn't interest me.
Just last night I tried to get a head start in a eight page story for my literature class and typed only three sentences before I turned my attention to the television. I recovered afterwards and went back to my writings, soon after I turned on winamp and decided to enjoy music while I type. I enjoyed it so much that I dozed off, I was awake but my mind was somewhere else and before I knew it I had already wasted more than an hour of precious time.
There are ways to plan your time in order to avoid things like this, I will lock myself in the darkness with a lamp until I have enough work finished. That'll show me :tpg:
I love to relax but there is a limit to how much to can hold something off. Anyone else ever held something off so much that you went to extreme measures or maybe non at all.

I've done that before, I don't know why, but it's just so tempting sometimes to just goof off and do nothing. I'd give a detailed description...... nah, maybe tomorrow

ramoth Nov 30, 2006 08:18 AM

I was going to make a thread about this, but never got around to it :(

I'm surprised I even managed to post this.

Way, way back when I was somewhat younger (quite a few years ago now) I had some history homework that I put off and put off. I made up some excuse to fob off my teacher when she asked for it, but then we were given more homework. This sort of went on for about six or seven weeks until I was behind by a small mountain of homework. I said I'd lost my exercise book and ended up screwing it up and hiding it down the back of my bed when my parents were informed of the numerous bits of outstanding work.

Oops. :p

It took me a second to get it, but then it was funny!
I usually don't put things off to the last second, I try to budget my time as much as I can

niki Nov 30, 2006 09:56 AM

That's basically the story of my life, except I don't even relax. I always leave the important stuff aside to focus on the ridiculously vain projects my head is constantly filled with. =/

Now thats what I call procrastination.

Chibi Neko Nov 30, 2006 10:16 AM

I would do this all the time with my JAVA and CGI class in collage. May explain why my grade was a little low.

This entire semester has been one of procrastination. I'm even procrastinating right now! I'm supposed to be leaving for school, to go practice. But it's piano, and I hate practicing piano.

Ayos Nov 30, 2006 11:03 AM

I don't procrastinate anything that isn't important. Eating, sleeping, heck I'd probably put off breathing if I could get away with it for a couple hours.

Hey me too, except I'm supposed to be studying for an Accounting exam.

ionuk tomb Nov 30, 2006 11:43 AM

I've had a week to study for a Microbiology Lab exam (tomorrow) for a week. I couldn't do it. I just can't study if I am not under pressure of no time.

yeah, the hits just keep on coming with this topic

I was going to reply earlier, but I kept putting it off.

...

Ok, yeah I tend to procrastinate more then I should... mostly about going to bed or something, which turns into me getting to school/work late sometimes. Its not like I mean to... I just keep telling myself "I'll do this in 10 minutes" or something, and then 10 minutes turns to 30, 30 turns into an hour, and so forth.

Ryuu Nov 30, 2006 12:43 PM

I procrastinate all the time.

Every project, paper, etc etc is done at the very last second. I ALWAYS turn it in on time, so I'm sure to set aside enough time to do the project/paper/whatever, it's just I never get around to it until the day before or the day it's due.

The Wise Vivi Nov 30, 2006 02:10 PM

Yep, my attention span is about nil... Sometimes I am very good at concentrating and sometimes its winamp, videogames, the internet. Geez... sometimes it upsets me that I can't get things going.

But, I have to write a paper for tomorrow... and I have to get it done... grrr... :(

Erisu Kimu Nov 30, 2006 02:54 PM

Haha yeah, I'm a procrastination master. I'm almost never motivated when it comes to school work. I just can't get into it until the day before the due date or the final weekend before the due date that comes up in the following week. I'm always preoccupied with internet, movies or books. I just feel that a huge portion of it is based on my laziness and my disinterest in doing anything "not fun" when I have spare time.

WraithTwo Nov 30, 2006 02:57 PM

I can probably procrastinate with the best of you, but for those out there that have "beat" procrastination, how did you do it?

Unforgiven Nov 30, 2006 03:05 PM

Oh I procrastinate WAY too much. All my school projects are done at the last minute and, well, it shows. Its isn't the first time and it probably won't be the last. Sadly. :(

Antignition Nov 30, 2006 03:08 PM

I've always been a procrastinator, maybe if I stopped getting away with it 95% of the time I wouldn't do it so much.

Hell, my $200 admission fee for USF is apparently due tomorrow, haven't even looked at the paperwork yet.

My procrastination habits summed up nicely. The thing with me is even though I procrastinate homework assignments and stuff I tend to have a large guilt trip the entire time, meaning I can't really enjoy playing gears of War instead of studying for a socials exam. So annoying, but it IS hard to get out of -_-

Kesubei Nov 30, 2006 05:55 PM

I always procrastinate, but it's been pretty bad this semester. Usually, I'll procrastinate until the day before something is due, then get to work. I still do that, but more than a couple of times this semester I've chosen not to do the work at all. I pay for it in the end, of course.

Sacred X Nov 30, 2006 06:22 PM

This is one of my main attributes. I have procrastinated quite a bit this year due to lack of motivation. Just as an earlier poster said, I don't really show much motivation unless under the pressure of very little or no time. I currently have a 3-page essay (along with one other thing too complex to explain, moreso not worth it) that's due tomorrow. I have aobut 6-7 hours before bed. If I start now, I probably can get it done and get a decent to good mark. But... eh.

The Wulf Dec 1, 2006 01:52 PM

I've procrastinated just about everything for Chem and Journalism... and a little in Russian... I have until 19 hundred tonight to get it all in... And now it seems almost pointless to try... I probably could get it done, or wouldn't be in this situation if I had the motivation, but meh... Looks like I'm spending lunch in eConnections..

Damn you, procrastination!
