Sakamoto has been getting his bit of fame lately, with a number of his older games receiving online soundtrack releases.

Wow, Shinichi Sakamoto =O

Any link to provide, hsimons?

I've always dreamed of a Monster Land symphonic arrangement. ;_;

And a Dragon's Trap JDK Band/Iron Maiden style arrangement. That is seriously my favorite chiptune soundtrack of all time (the Master System version...I much prefer it to the Turbografx version). Shinichi Sakamoto definitely knew something a lot of 8-bit composers didn't..."Danger Zone", "Mind of Hero", "-insert name of the opening stage here, which is actually a remix of the final level of WB in Monster Land and I don't know the actual name of it-" and "Shop" (never knew this one got as good as it did past the 45 second point...groove-tastic) are all works of pure genius.

Hmm, didn't know about Panic Bomber...Is there a rip anywhere of that one?

And more importantly: Anything else he did?

THE POWER OF WATER Nov 25, 2006 10:46 PM

I'd also like to learn much, much more about these "online soundtrack releases." :naughty:

"The Last Dungeon" (remix of "Labyrinth of No End")

Does it? The VGM from SMS Power is significantly shorter. :(

I wish! Haven't heard the music; just pulled that info from MobyGames. But Earth could always use more Virtual Boy rips.

Maybe I could look at emulator-ripping it when I get my computer back, if it turns out not to be besieged by the clipping issues my Red Alarm rip had. :(

I know of nothing else. (edited the first post because I forgot that Monster Land and Monster World are two different games, though)

niki Nov 26, 2006 04:45 AM

Well, firt of all, here's the link hsimons gave me by PM. I guess he didnt post it here because he can't post links yet. Thanks again hsimons. =)

Secondly, I can't believe I never checked before. Here's the translated list of games he has worked on according to GMCL2:

Argus (アーガス - AC - Jaleco - 1986)
Aoi Blink (青いブリンク - PCE - Hudson - 1990)
Appare! Gateball (あっぱれゲートボール - PCE - Hudson - 1988)
Aurail (オーライル - AC)
Kekkon: Marriage (結婚 - PS/SS - Shogakukan Production - 1995)
Pshysic 5 (サイキック5 - Jaleco - AC)
Senjyo (センジョウ - AC)
Valtric (バルトリック - AC)
Power Eleven (パワーイレブン - PCE - Hudson - 1991)
Majin Eiyuu Den Wataru Gaiden (魔神英雄伝ワタル外伝 - FC - Hudson - 1990)
Dungeon Explorer (ダンジョンエクスプローラ - PCE)
Wonder Boy 3 (AC - ワンダーボーイIII - モンスターレア) <- ????
Wonder Boy 5 Monster World 3 (ワンダーボーイV モンスターワールドIII - MD)
Brad Gear (ブラッド・ギア - SCD - composed opening only)
Panic Bomber (とびだせ!ぱにボン - VB)

+ the obligatory
Wonder Boy (ワンダーボーイ - AC + SMS + GG)
Wonder Boy Monster Land (AC + SMS)
Wonder Boy 3 (SMS + GG)

Now, isnt that a nice to-rip list? =p

(omg thread hijack to da max)

THE POWER OF WATER Nov 26, 2006 05:04 AM

Dungeon Explorer? No way. Still leaves DE2's composer a mystery, though.

Lots of arcade stuff, I see. I wonder how many of those games M1 supports...

Also, I support this hijack. :tpg:

Ive always seen DE2 credited to Yoshio Tsuru and Jun Takema.

I'm checking on M1 now as well. =)

(I think a thread split request would be nice ^_^; )

A split fulfillment is even better!

hehe cool =)

I found a great part of his arcade works are available on M1. Listened around a bit and didnt find anything really noticeable, but then again I didnt have much time to spend on it ...

Golfdish from Hell Dec 20, 2006 05:53 PM

Well, we can forget his involvement on Gradius Tribute...1:21 of Challenger 1985 solo acoustic guitar arrangement is pretty lame.

Sadly though, it's probably my 4th or 5th favorite track from the album...

THE POWER OF WATER Dec 20, 2006 08:06 PM

Did some checking up on our boy.
  • Argus - soundtrack on Game Sound Jaleco ~ G.S.M. Jaleco 1 ~; ROM doesn't work in M1
  • Aoi Blink - HES
    Catchy stuff.
  • Aurail - works in M1
Music's not so great, IMO. (co-composed with Napalm Hiromitsu)
  • Psychic 5 - works in M1
This was pretty good stuff. Nothing mindblowing, but I enjoyed it a lot.
  • Senjyo - soundtrack on Tecmo Game Music; ROM doesn't work in M1
  • Valtric - soundtrack on Game Sound Jaleco ~ G.S.M. Jaleco 1 ~; ROM doesn't work in M1
  • Majin Eiyuu Den Wataru Gaiden - NSF
Simplistic and short kinda stuff, but what's there isn't too bad.
  • Dungeon Explorer - HES

  • Panic Bomber
I played through the first two levels on an emulator and heard just covers of the usual Bomberman music. I don't know if Sakamoto arranged some tunes or composed new ones. And it looks like any rip of the game will have to have sound effects. How I wish there was a VB emulated audio format. :(

"Monster World 2 Game Gear" ? =/

Also, Dubble's WB pack is actually more complete than this, but it's stil great that great series get such a release. <3

OH PLEASE MONSTER LAND ORCHESTRA ARRANGE ... ;_;

THE POWER OF WATER Mar 21, 2007 02:18 PM

Rip ahoy!

http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/jo...&entryid=23601

If you have Dubble's rip already (which everyone on Earth should), there's not a whole lot of new material here. The only new material is an FM version of the The Dragon's Trap OST and the arranged track, an acoustic guitar mix of the Dragon's Trap ending theme much like the mix Sakamoto did on Gradius Tribute. There's a link to just that track if you want to grab it without getting the entire album.

Interestingly, there are a couple of name changes. Mind of Hero from the VGM set has become "Adventure Zone (Forest)," and Side-Crawler's Dance has become Mind of Hero.

And still no orchestra arrange. ;____;
