I live in Spain, but I don't...

Ok. I tried Google for this problem, but I may not be using the right search. Anyways, I am stationed in Spain and all too often when I go to a web page, it defaults in Spanish. That is understandable since my ISP is in Spain. Well, I tried going to Hertz.com, for instance, to check out rentals back home in the States and the US isn't even a choice. The only thing I can figure out is in Firefox, to change the default language, but that doesn't work half the time. I did try IE, but that was worse.

Can anyone help, or am I screwed?

BTW Hertz is just an example.

I would guess the websites are going by your IP address. If that's what the sites are reading, then I think you're out of luck.

If nothing else, find a proxy and use that. If you can see stuff then properly, then you found your problem.

Most sites usually contain an option--Google, for one, comes to mind--for setting your language preference; have you looked for one?

Perhaps, in the case of Hertz.com, you could be aided by an e-mail to customer service explaining your situation--it is likely that they have a solution to this issue.

If all else fails, just use a proxy server in the US.

Thanks for the responses and I figured I am out of luck. Its not that important really, but its mostly a nuiscance. I will double check what I have set with Google, but I think it will still go against my IP address.

One thing that I think is funny with having a Spain IP address, is the flash ads that say I can win a green card. Fun stuff...

Control Panel >>> Regional and Language Options

Check if your Location is 'United Sates.'

I don't think that is an IP problem, but a region/language problem.

It was already set to United States. I think it is an IP thing. Oh well... lol
