Agreed. I was right upset when I first read this.

I just heard from my mom from the news here. This was quite a shock for me.

Not that he hadn't lived a fairly long life, but it's still saddening.

Does it seem to anyone else like the legends we revere are all dying around us? Sure, death has to happen eventually, but there's barely a handful of fresh, new directors and musicians who even come near to being in the same class as these gentlemen. If I had been alive on "the day the music died" I imagine it would probably feel something akin to this.

We'll miss you, sir.

Proof positive that you need to be at death's door to get an honorary Oscar.

Still, that's too bad. Man, them Hollywood types are dropping like flies--Jack Palence, Basil Poledouris, Altman...who's next?

Sad to hear about this. But he was 81 and his imprint on this planet will never go unnoticed I am sure.

I should really go out and find some more of the movies he made and watch them. Might help give me an even better understanding of the great quality he produced.

Yeah ... I think it's gonna become real scary when the 1970'ies generation starts falling as well. =/
