Got recommendation of Classical VGM for non-gamers?
 

Howdy, currently my faculty held a UN Simulation Conference which will be split in two parts, which are 18th and 28th november. The head of protocol division told me whether I had a classical recording to be played during lunch/cofee break. I see this as chance to secretly promote VGM tunes to non-gamers. :)

So, do you have recommendation for easy-listening VGM in classical style? I'm thinking to put some Sugiyama's Monopoly and some of his dragon quest chamber music arrangements. I'm also thinking to put some tracks from orchestrated Final Fantasy albums. But if you have other recommendation, let me know!

I used Bach's complex violin concerto last time, which was disaster >_>, if there is no appropriate tracks, I will just use Mozart during the conference.

Check out the Arcanum soundtrack. Most of the tracks are for string quartet, and since you mentioned the Monopoly string quartet arrangements, they might be appropriate too.

When I read "easy listening" the first track that came to mind for me was Balamb Garden~Ami, from the Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec arrange album.

I would recommend some of the chamber orchestra arrangements from the "Falcom Neo Classic From Studios In London City" album (released on #gamefaqs not too long ago). Especially 1-3 - Off the Deep End ~ LA VALSE POUR XANADU ~ Dragon Slayer Legend of Heroes and 1-5 - Cursed Land ~ Sorcerian Cursed Oasis [Desert] ~ Medusa's Head [Village]. Both beautiful pieces that are easy on the ears.

I'd recommend Republic: The Revolution soundtrack (review|download) and some of Inon Zur's work (Syberia II / Icewind Dale II / Throne of Bhaal).

Yes, I also have plan to add some tunes from that album, for instance, Fisherman Horizon, I'm sure even non-gamers will find the arrangement nice.

Hmm, I will try Xenosaga I, I heard it's orchestrated by London Philharmonic so I think it will be superb. I will pas on FFT and Vagrant Story though, I think the music is not for chamber purpose since there are some battle music tracks =P

I also have listened Arcanum OST. Even though it's great soundtrack, I think the melody is too much dissonance and is not really suitable for the event. Regardless, thanks for the info. ^__^.

Two CDs I can think of would be Onimusha 2 Orchestra Album and Shenmue Orchestra Version. Although they both do have some more "upbeat" battle themes on them, I don't know if that's a no-no for you. But they're nowhere near as cheesy as FF8 FLWV's Don't Be Afraid or Man with a Machine Gun. Symphony Ys or Symphony Sorcerian may work as well. And if you don't mind showing off a slightly synthetic -- but very well textured -- orchestra, there's always the sublimely dynamic soundtrack of The Dig.

Although, I'd have to say I agree more strongly with Dragon Quest music if you're going for a really true classical feel. I love the Brass Quintet album, and the String Quartet would work equally well, I'm sure, as well as any of the orchestral suites.

I would go too with Falcom Neo Classical album.

As for Final Fantasy tracks....I wouldn't put any because they simply aren't "classical", they're only orchestrated. The same goes for Xenosaga.

I'm not sayig they're bad but it seems you'Re looking for something calm and easy listening and I doubt Final Fantasy or Xenosaga are the way to go.

Ys symphony also has some great classical tracks if you can get your hands on it.

Try the orchestral game concert albums, they have great tracks. And some of the Nobunaga's Ambition Albums too. Yoko Kanno is really a good composer in classical style.
