Wirelessly Recharging Batteries?

Source.

Through resonance, it'll be possible to recharge an object without being plugged in! Cool beans, eh? I love how my background in Electromagnetics is helping me understand this... Kinda goes back to Tesla's old idea of global power. ((Edit: Oh snap. Article mentions it =d))

No hardware or tests yet, but there have been calculations and computer models that suggest that this is possible.

That is quite neat! more and more things are becoming wireless.

I saw an article about this from a different publication I believe. The whole concept sounds awesome. Cell phones? Factories? Possibly Cars, Subway trains, very cool piece of Tech.

I always wanted to be the one to invent a viable wireless electricity solution ;___;

I mean, I can still perfect the tech and set up my global wireless electricity service and become ridiculously rich in the process.....but it's just not the same >=U

I wonder how my Midi Applications would be affected. There isn't a big impact on the horizon, I don't think. Rechargeable batteries and clocks/watches aren't very exciting as it is. Cell phones aren't really so much of a big deal. They practically charge in your free time as it is. Interesting science, though. No other appliance that I can think at first glance is portable enough to make a convenience out of. Gamers might get a kick out of never ending, wireless controller eliteness, though.

The people who complain about mobile phone radiation being dangerous are going to just love this >_<.

Yeah. They aren't going to be able to stop it though. This thing has major commercial applications, and it's almost certainly going to happen, unless it causes people to instantly drop dead.

Cancer? They can deny the link, if it doesn't happen instantly.

Well personally I'm really not too concerned about the radiation from mobile phones since the human body is bombared with far more radiation from the cosmos daily than from all of the cell phones in the world.

This technology does concern me though. We're not exposed to types/levels of energy that are required to cause resonance in most objects. I'd be really concerned about the long term impact because we simply haven't ever researched the impact such tecnology would have on organic matter.

Gechmir Nov 15, 2006 08:42 PM

Heh. The main difference is that the human body is used to the "radiation from the cosmos" =p

There isn't a negative side. It is based on Electromagnetics. Electromagentics are churning in anything electric that you touch. It's not like you'll be living beneath a monstrous old powerline. Unless you know of someone who got cancer from watching too much TV or standing under lightbulbs too much, I doubt this'll be harmful.
