DVD +R or DVD -R?

I found a whole stack of DVD -R's, and I was wondering what the difference is... can I burn movies from my computer to these?

Most burners these days allow you to burn most formats. It all depends on what DVD burner you have. You should be able to, but without knowing the make of your DVD burner then there's not a lot I can tell you.

Some info regarding DVD formats.

Yeah, it's just like Domino said. Just about any drive can read both, but not all drives can write both, though most can these days. If you burn movies, then DVD-R have a tendency to be a little bit more compatible with relatively old players, but most of the time both kinds will read fine.

You should check on the front of your drive, there'll probably be a bunch of icons engraved on it telling you what it can and can't read/write.

Just for the record ... dvd-r has slightly more space... a few mb's at most but it made the difference for me once ;)

DVD-R boasts better compatibility with standalone DVD players, especially older models. If you care about this aspect then go with DVD-R, if you don't care then it really does not matter one way or another.
