Crazy Asian Mother

For those who haven't check out this clip, kind of reminds me of my own mom.

Old. But a classic nonetheless.

Man, that is so like my report showings to my mom, and i'm caucasian.

Once upon a time, my orchestra grade was listed last on my report card, and my mom was satisfied with my 70's and 80's until she found my 90 in orchestra, then all of a sudden all my other grades weren't good enough.

Then when my sisters show their report cards with the same, or worse grades, it's just fine, whatever. I really hate report cards.

Being in a boarding school and having totally apathetic parents means I haven't been in this kind of situation since I was... Hell, I don't know, I aced every single class I was in while I was at school in the USA. I never received any "congratulations" or "you're top of your class, well done", though. Was sad.

Greykin Oct 25, 2006 05:24 PM

Heh, my mom used to be like that, but then slowly started to drop, and I think she puts all hope on my little brother now instead of me :(.

Mojougwe Oct 25, 2006 06:27 PM

My parents are like this:

*ACTION!*

"LINE UP! HOW CAN YOU GET A C IN MATH?"

-Parent hits kid with a hueg ass stick-

-Several times-

The end.

All the YouTube video points out well is the elitist attitude asian/oriental parents tend to have.

Kazyl Oct 25, 2006 06:50 PM

I was laughing when they started to break character though the "sobbing" was really putting me off.

I never showed my parents my report card. They never really asked after 6th grade.

Spatula Oct 25, 2006 06:58 PM

We got something callled knock out. That's great.
I like how this was basically my high school life. U WANT TO GET TO UNIVERSITY WIT THIS B AVERAGE GRADE!??! FAIL!

The only part that is funny is when they are all laughing. The rest is dull and uninteresting.

Luckee Cookie Oct 25, 2006 07:31 PM

:tpg: I still remember getting like a 90 some % in a course and all I get asked was "where did the other percentage went!?"

I swear my aunt has that EXACT sweater... but in green o__O"

Summonmaster Oct 25, 2006 09:20 PM

Oh I remember seeing this. It's always funny to picture what kinds of crazy expectations asian parents usually have. My parents always expected me to have the top grades, and then I had lots of leeway after getting slightly lower marks in uni.

A: "Weighted Average, Bell Curve, and all that stuff"

That was a little weird at first, but some moments were hilarious.

"We ain't no white folks, we play knockout."

"Be a Man" - Just like Russell Peters.

lemonmanko Nov 26, 2006 05:38 AM

jeez not cool as that reminded me of my youth
if i got one out of place grade i got my ass whopped and talked to just like that

*sigh* i'll never treat my kids like that :X

but yes when the guy broke out of character it was funny

Zyzex Nov 27, 2006 06:35 AM

I found it funny. but then again, I find any recreation of asian mothers funny.

Drex Nov 27, 2006 11:39 AM

It was okay. I've seen better, but there were some pretty decent parts, and I chuckled.

Ryuu Nov 28, 2006 08:29 PM

I've seen this before, and it plays on the stereotype well enough, though I didn't find it especially funny.

Luckily my Mom isn't like that, though she does have high expectations of me and sets a standard of not getting anything below a B. *Shrug*
