This is a silly question, but...
I bought my external HD- Western Digital Portable- but I'm having trouble trying to use it. No "How to use" manual or anything came with it. I want to put things on them then get them off my computer, but it seems they have to stay on my computer or the hard drive when it "synchronizes" deletes them. For instances- when I first sychnronized it, I put on my movies, music videos, and Final Fantasy videos. I kept the movies and music videos on my computer, but deleted the Final Fantasy videos. When I added another movie and synchronized, my Final Fantasy videos on my hard drive were gone. So, I unchecked the movies from the sychronization, thinking that I just shouldn't have those folders synchronized. Now after synchronizing, it won't let me see the files in it cause it wasn't synchronized after the last time I did it.
So how exactly do I use this thing? |
Basically for your needs, you will need to disable any synchronization software that might be running. You just want the external drive to show up as a D: or F: or whatever drive letter, and dump all of the desired files to it through Explorer.

Are you saying don't use that program, just drag and drop? *wonders why she didn't do that in the first place*
|
Yes. Just drag and drop.
Synchronization is designed to merely mirror whatever drive or folder that you select it to synchronize with. So it will track whatever changes you make, including deletes, moves, renaming, and other simple things. |
Mr. russ has it right. I've had a similar problem with my mp3 player - it "required" synchronisation via Windows Media Player. I didn't quite understand the synchronisation feature nor did I want to - I just copy/pasted the songs I wantd via Explorer.
