The limit of mangaka...
I'm bit unsure where to put this news, feel free to move it though.
Apparantly Inumaru Rin, author of Ojaru Maru committed a suicide by jumping from her apartment. Though her anime is widely popular, it's not even licensed outside japan. she was depressed, and eventually, chose to end her life. Quote:
does anyone know any other case like these? I'm also wondering how do these mangakas get paid. Maybe the salary is not good enough to cover all the daily expense? |
You don't hear about mangaka suicide that often in the japanese news. This is because it rarely happens, especially among well-known ones.
I don't know about mangaka salaries, but considering how successful her show was, I don't think it was a problem of salary. |
Work related suicides are not uncommon. I believe it is less to do with the job as a mangaka and more to do with her personal depression. Perhaps she wanted more success in the industry, who knows. There are many jobs out there that are extremely competitive and financially unrewarding, but people still do it.
