Breaking my photographer's block
 

For the entire year, I have had a terrible case of photographer's block. But upon going out for a walk about two weeks ago, something told me "You should really pick up your camera...", and also "don't forget the polarizing filter". So, I got them and walked out. I took a few mediocre shots as I was walking up to the gas station, but on my way out, I was inspired by a beautiful sight:

Oh yeah! I felt so good, like I had found something, a part of myself that I had lost along the way somehow. And I think I also discovered what my real photographic passion is: The sky! Looking back on it, nothing has ever truly exicted me or elicited a more pure, childlike joy than a wonderful sky scene, and the sky was indeed in rare form that night.

I just wish I hadn't blown the red channel on the right side.

Wow...that's a really beautiful picture! I love how you left the trees in silhouette at the bottom of the frame, and all of the colors in the sky, and how the clouds just kind of fan out from the center of the frame towards the edges.

...and I know what you mean about photographer's block. It seems like I haven't been able to take a really good picture for months now, or at least nothing that I like as much as the stuff in my old black and white portfolios. It's a bit frusturating. I have a camera, I carry it everywhere, now I just need to use it!

Erm.... guilty. It was just as bad when I was taking a photography class. Like, I would just reuse some old stuff to turn in. Bad, I know. It's probably easier when you have someone else with you to take photos. Least it will feel less awkward.

But like you said, you need something to jar the passion back up. Looking at other people's work usually helps. I know it did for my drawing block.

The white on the right of the image really gets to me. It's so bright. The clouds are really impressive though. It really gives the impression of movement. Almost like the world is moving forward.

Unfortunately, the white area is nearly at 255, and is basically unsalvagable. There's also the fact that the closer you get to the sun, the smaller and smaller the effects of the polarizer become.

Wow. Very nice shot. I absolutely love sky shots. Not only do I take them often, I love looking at many other works from other people. It does take talent to get great shots of the sky. Sunsets are especially wonderful.

I have a nice large library of sky shots. I find them very useful in creating craphic textures and such :). One of my favourite shots was out the door from my apartment. Even though I live in North London the sunset colours make it look like France or something.
