Any PSO fans out there?

I know people have probably heard of the games, but does anybody here actually play it? Also, if you do, what clans are you a part of?

I used to play Version 1 a lot. I'm trying to get into Blue Burst right now.

Lukage Mar 8, 2006 07:30 PM

Phantasy Star Online.

EDIT: I uhh, play the Gamecube version....got the Dreamcast one recently. Trying to master 1p first.

the quiet fox Mar 8, 2006 08:47 PM

I talked about this in another thread. I don't play PSO online anymore, sadly - lack of money plus stupid team drama didn't make US Blue Burst all that appealing. (Though, hopeless case that I am, I still consider going back every now and then. But PSU is coming out so soon...)

On the US servers I was a member of jeM for a little while. On the JP servers I was a proud member of The Red Team. Represent. \o/

Well I was playing on Dreamcast for a looooong time =) I don't remember witch race I was playing with but I remember that my favorite weapon was blade =) I have seen that in Blue Burst you can use dual blades =D That would be great!!!

Lady Miyomi Mar 9, 2006 12:08 PM

The race of my character on Version 1 was hunewearl (my avatars). I loved the Spread Needle, Lavis Cannon, and the SB blades. I wish there was some way I could play Blue Burst on my computer and offline for awhile without having to pay for it.

the quiet fox Mar 9, 2006 12:22 PM

My RAmar online never found the Spread Needle he was hunting. :( I had to make do with a Final Impact, which was fine, if a little slow.

I have an inexplicable love for handguns, especially the Custom Ray. I have no idea why.

Josiah Mar 9, 2006 06:48 PM

I suppose my av and title there say enough. I particularly didn't like the Spread Needle, mostly because most forms of it that I saw were some really cheap hack that'd kill everything before my HUmar could even get a hit in. The first few months I played it online on the Dreamcast were heavenly for sure, but once the cheats started spreading, the game (at least version 1 on the Dreamcast) went the way of Diablo on Battle.net. And while I have episode 1&2 on the Gamecube now, I don't play it online. Same issue, lack of money. And in order for Multi Mode to really work from what I've seen, you have to have several people living pretty close to each other that are all quite into it. Otherwise, you either all get schooled by the monsters or you have one person that does fine while his buddy(ies) keep dying on him.

As for my character, it was a HUmar like I already said, with a little emphasis in magic ability as well as attack power (my MAG was 40 DEF, 100 POW, 30 DEX and 40 MIND). I went the saber route for a good while, until one day in Hard or VHard Forest I found a repeater (mechgun) and decided to give it a try. Oh, what wonders it did. Ever since, I had a mechgun weapon for every area with the right photon for it, such as a Charge Repeater for Forest with 50% photon on Native monsters (which was easy to accomodate with the YELLOWBOZE Id). I would switch things around sometimes too, like a Soul Calibur (:tpg:) in the Ruins.

I did get Version 2 on the Dreamcast, but I never got to play it online. Made it to the Ruins in Ultimate Mode but stopped there. I just kept getting wasted by everything, even with Shifta and Deband on myself and Jellen and Zalure on the baddies (which..none of which I can cast with my recreation in Episode I&II on the GC for some reason :( ).

So, now, I've remade that HUmar for Episode I&II on the Cube and am currently going through Episode II on Normal. I'm having a fun time, but I do admit I miss the online days. Those days are what rank PSO as one of my favorite RPGs.

Kimchi Mar 9, 2006 06:50 PM

I always play PSO on psocheats.net, from Broomop, Sega is on to them (private server) or seomthing. Right now I am wating for PSU, and possibly PSU private >.>

Lady Miyomi Mar 10, 2006 01:32 AM

How do you do that? Are you doing this one the computer?

WolfDemon Mar 10, 2006 01:45 AM

I loved PSO on Xbox. I've been wanting to go back to it, but that stupid hunter's license... Hopefully Universe will be free.

Lady Miyomi Mar 10, 2006 01:52 AM

Now I'm curious, can any PC versions of PSO be bought at, say EB or Gamestop? I downloaded the PSO demo, but I can't really play it because I don't get hurt or anything.

I was unaware of a PC version. I'd have bought that rather than my GC one (cause of the...ya know, awesome online support the cube has)

the quiet fox Mar 10, 2006 10:36 AM

I don't believe there are any current PC versions of PSO, just an old version that was a port of the Dreamcast game (I'm going completely from memory here, so I may be wrong). Well, there's Blue Burst, but you can't buy a boxed version of that save for the Japanese episode 4 box.

Shenlon Mar 10, 2006 11:16 AM

I still sometimes play on the pc version. I of course play the hacked and private servers. But there so many "hacks" that can really ruin the experience of the game.

Lady Miyomi Mar 10, 2006 11:38 AM

OK, if I download Blue Burst (which I'm about to), would I still have to pay to play it offline after the trial period?

The site is www.poscheats.net

You will have to download some stuffs. And you will be able to play on PSO private server for free. And most of the players hack to be like 1123121 lvl. And there are 2 types. Legit and another server with hacks. But admis doesnt give a shit if you hack on legit. ( How do I know? Me and Brommop used hacked shit on legit server XD)

Parn Mar 12, 2006 08:09 AM

I used to play this extensively, having imported the original Japanese release on Dreamcast and being pleasantly surprised to play an import game in full English. Was even more pleasantly surprised to see US servers up alongside the Japanese servers when the game launched, which probably meant they had originally intended on having a simultaneous release. The Japanese version of the game was pretty buggy though (if you had a crash, ALL your item data was wiped, not just non-equipped items... yes, this included your banked items and meseta), and I wasted no time picking up the US release.

Then sometime later, PSO Version 2 came out, and I captured several screenshots and the like back when I was still working at RPGFan... was nice having exclusive content for the site back then. Played that extensively.

Long story short, I've played every version of PSO ever released, and quite frankly... I'm all PSO'd out. Have been for the longest time. I've seen and done just about everything there was to do in the game, and the atmosphere that the game's playerbase once had is all but non-existant these days. People bickering over "teams" on PSO Blue Burst is hilariously retarded.

So, I'm on standby, waiting for PSU to ship. Have my copy on next-day-air USPS and already pre-ordered.

Cyantre Mar 12, 2006 10:31 AM

I played PSO on GCN a few years ago, but I lost interest in it. I was a FOmarl.

Kimchi Mar 15, 2006 03:47 AM

Lol, poor you Parn, loosing everyhing. Anyways PSU looks alright, Sega lost its Phantasy Star touch.

Exactly what kind of "stuff" are we talking about? I think I'm even going to Gamestop and EB later this week to find a decent PC controller just for this.

SuperDK Mar 16, 2006 03:51 AM

Well, I believe you can't SP PSO Ep.4, but I don't know because I never actually got to play it...=(

I played this on GC (without online because I didn't have the resources to pay for Hunters license) for about 3 years. With friends of course. And my bros. My highest HIT% item was a Dragon Slayer at 95%...it was freaking crazy. Put it on my HUnewearl and she kicks some ass with it. Though, my best character has to be my LV193 RAcast. I've got a 35% HIT Spread Needle (because now only rangers can use Spread Needle, which is a good thing, imo) and that's all I need. Shifta helps tons, but I can solo that whole game, now that I'm almost maxed out on levels. Sucks though, because I can't seem to get the 30million exp that's left to hit LV200. I think my hour total hit about 1400 offline. That's pretty crazy, especially because I'm not even playing with a lot of other people.

I also got into Ep. 3. It's not as bad as people think, but I guess you have to be some sort of card fan to actually really it. My fav characters in that game are Endu (nothing beats a good rampage attack) and Ohgun. I like the artwork in that game as well, and the music is really good. It's worth a try, but if you don't like 20-40 minute battles, then this is probably not for you. It's more like a strategy-RPG, but the random-ness of the cards makes it more like a card game, I guess.

The stuffs are the err game client and cheat program if you are intrested to cheat. Or just become ledgedary by playing 100% legitly, but no one really cares if you cheat or not, so it is up to you.

Lady Miyomi Mar 16, 2006 11:55 AM

I want to play 100% legit, but I can't afford what they're asking...any way I can circumvent this?

Kimchi Mar 16, 2006 12:11 PM

On the private? Sure you can play 100% legit, but most of the players uses hacked items. But hell, you can just go to legit server.

Lady Miyomi Mar 16, 2006 12:35 PM

But playing it on the computer is going to cost, that's what they said. I don't mind using hacked items, but I don't want to level up to some obscure level. That's no fun. :(
