WILD ARMS the Vth Vanguard

Anyone else looking forward to this? =D

While the soundtrack hasn't even been announced yet, here are some BGM and voice/sfx samples ripped from a japanese demo disc. Pretty promising stuff I'd say.

If that's all Naruke in there, this is sounding like this album could be one of her best works. Then again, if Masato Kouda et al have returned, I will be just as pleased.

Very promising stuff, indeed. When the Vth Vanguard was first announced, my first reaction was that I hoped Naruke would be returning to do a complete solo job. At first, I was very disappointed when she wasn't able to do so on 4th Detonator because of her illness. If this were a 1 or 2 disc album I'd probably still feel that way, but with these scores now becoming 3 and 4 discs long, I think it'd be great if she at least SOME help. Composers like Masato Kouda and Nobuyuki Shimizu really breathed some new life to the series, musically, and I wouldn't mind at all if they returned to contribute again.

Great stuff, seanne. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know, I didn't enjoy the Wild Arms IV soundtrack anywhere near as much as I-III. Naruke is still the only hand I trust for the rudder of Wild Arms.

Not bad. I always look forward to hearing new WA soundtracks. I didn't much care for WA4's initially, but after picking it up last year (the game), it really grew on me. Some of the music that didn't do anything for me on the soundtrack actually works perfectly well in game (and helped me to appreciate it more). Others were always good and I just missed them initially.

This latest installment seems like another change for the series. I really liked the platforming/puzzle slant of the fourth game, but I disliked the removal of an actual overworld. This new overworld seems even more open than any others in the series (you can see videos on the website).

I believe this is a November game, yeah? With everything else releasing that month, I may have to wait a bit before actually picking it up...but I am looking forward to playing it once I do.

For anyone that's interested, here is a single containing the game's theme song, called Justice to Believe. Performed by Nana Mizuki.

Hopefully there will be a soundtrack release announced soon!

dark1x: The game is set for release on December 14th in Japan. I don't think a US release date has been decided yet.

And here's the booklet for the single, which dedicated all of two pages to the game:

As much as I want Naruke back in full force, I really hope they bring back Ryuta Suzuki for a couple of songs.

Yeah, I like 4th Detonator much the same way I like FFX, with all of the different styles (though with a similar theme) going around. I wouldn't be upset to see the same cast return in the same roles they had in the last one. I think I'd like to see something like a disc and a half of Naruke, one of Suzuki (Howling at an Unstoppable Fate and Manifestation from Hell were my two favorites from 4th Detonator...Yes, even more than Guara Bobelo. :juggler: ) and 3/4's of one for Kouda and 3/4's of one for Shimizu. Naruke's style is excellent, but it can be difficult to stretch it for 4 discs and adding the flavor of the others gives just the right balance. As long as she's doing the battle music...

Antignition Nov 15, 2006 07:30 AM

Yes, I think Howling at an Unstoppable Fate was my favorite track on the entire album, and the album was full of great stuff, so that's a pretty nice honor.

You make a good point, variation is a wondeful thing (it is the only thing that saved the FFX album for me, 95% of Uematsu's tracks were forgettable), however I think Naruke held her own admirably in the WA3 album, she had enough variety in the tracks to keep it interesting all the way through (and having my favorite song on any WA game, Crossfire Sequence, also helped).

I *did* find myself having to take a break listening to Alter Code F and Wild Arms Complete Tracks though, so I also think having a few other composers would be good.

However, the only other artist on WA4 that I would really want to be prominent other than Naruke is Suzuki, because his/her style is something I haven't heard from any other game I've played. Kouda wasn't bad, but I'd be just as happy if Naruke took any of his potential spots in the game.

None of Shimizu's tracks stuck with me at all, I'd be perfectly fine-Hell, I'd *prefer* it- if his only work in the WA series winds up being what we've already heard in the WA4 album.

Honestly, comparing the Vanguard soundtrack with the WA4 soundtrack, my ideal soundtrack would be if Naruke gets as many tracks as Kouda did, Kouda gets as many tracks as Naruke did, and Suzuki gets as many tracks as both he and Shimizu did combined.

Of course, when you get *that* specific it never turns out the way you want it to.

Holy Crap. HUGE synth quality change here!

06 kinda sounds like the battle theme???

Anyway. This doesnt sound like Naruke. Maybe its the synth, i dont know. Do we have a conformation of the composers yet? Whoever it is, its good.

Masato Koda.

DarkRavenX Nov 25, 2006 08:06 PM

Solo?

Apparently so. Noriyasu Agematsu may contribute more than just the vocal theme, though I doubt it.

Argentis Nov 27, 2006 05:30 AM

Masato Kouda? I'm not dissapointed, but i hope it isn't over as far as Naruke's involvement with the series is concerned.

Kaleb.G Nov 27, 2006 11:21 PM

What I'm really curious to know is, if Kouda is taking over the Wild Arms series, what is Naruke doing? Wild Arms XF is a possibility, though for her to abandon another main installment for a PSP spinoff sounds like a lame move. I personally hope she starts composing for other games/series, since she's been with Wild Arms for a fairly long time.

Angry Willow Dec 3, 2006 10:52 AM

I highly doubt that Naruke isn't involved, in some form of fashion.

However, the music sounds much different. Same style, but different chord progressions than we normally hear from Naruke. Kouda is probably involved.

My prediction is that Naruke and Kouda actually co-composed some of these tracks, maybe the whole soundtrack. Maybe throw Suzuki in there somewhere. That would be really cool.

seanne Dec 17, 2006 07:03 AM

Anyone who wants another sample of what's to come, you can get the Mini Soundtrack from here.

Monkey King Dec 17, 2006 07:58 AM

Masato Kouda is wonderful, and I'm liking the sound of these sample tracks, but Wild Arms 5 is just going to seem wierd without any Naruke. It's like having your delicious cake taken away, and replaced with delicious pie.

Oh well, it seems that Kouda is cribbing a lot of notes from Naruke. The whistling is back!

N-Newtype Dec 17, 2006 10:45 PM

I would love the Justice To Believe song but I can't download it. Sendspace says that my location is too busy ;_;

Help!

DarkRavenX Dec 19, 2006 07:25 AM

Is track 5 on that mini cd the world map theme? Thats a beautiful piece right there. Kicks Naruke's map themes in the shins. Im very impressed. I knew that if Naruke wasnt going to do these, that Kouda would do a spectacular job filling her shoes. (Even though im going to put money on the fact that Agematsu composed track 5, but i think its clear that the battle theme was a Kouda masterpiece.)

alec Dec 30, 2006 06:43 PM

Hey guys, I was able to rip the boss battle theme of WA5.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HTZLHE11

Enjoy!

Summonmaster Dec 30, 2006 08:16 PM

I hope that V has an equal balance between the style of music in IV and Naruke's previous work. As touching as the music of 1-3 was, I was also blown away by the number of songs I like in IV. I was surprised to find that I loved all the "changer" songs especially in IV (Breaking Boundaries, Stationary Village Ciel, Guara Bobelo, etc. 2 being Kouda's work). Whistling would also be welcome for nostalgia.

Rip!? I didn't know it was already out in Japan, I'll have to listen to it and hope that I'll love the boss battle music for the 5th time.

arch_slayer Dec 30, 2006 11:08 PM

alec: thats not the actual so called normal boss theme, it's more of one of the special ones, which if i'm right, often plays on minibosses as well as mimic battles (I can't exactly remember, I might be wrong here. All I know is it's not the normal boss theme).

Also: here's the information for the track list from the mini album (god the recording is distorted):

1. The Vast Field Below the Sky - This is the first out of many field themes that plays during the first 1/5 or 1/4 of the game.
2. The City Where We'll Meet Someday - First town theme. It's the origin town, so I really don't remember this theme that well =)
3. What's Changed is the Former Me (literally, Past = Yesterday) - This is actually the first dungeon, which really isn't a dungeon (more like a tutorial). The song also likes to play in random scenes.
4. When My Heart Fires Up - Main Battle theme. This song plays way too much =)
5. Lost Ruins of a Dream - The first REAL dungeon. It has a ton of rivers and is really peaceful, compared to a lot of the other dungeons.

BGM 1 - Battle Victory Theme
BGM 2 - Number 1 Above
BGM 3 - Schenario Theme, I forgot the exact one
BGM 4 - Town 3 Theme, I'm pretty sure
BGM 5 - Another Dungeon Theme
BGM 6 - Number 4 Above

Anyway, specific elements that I'll point out after playing parts of the game.

1) The music is still addicting. If you liked Kouda in WA4, you'll definitely like him in 5. He actually does have a few themes that are very similar to Naruke, but they're not in the mini soundtrack.

2) The real boss theme is WEIRD. It sounds like an Egyptian dance or something.

3) I really like the second field theme. Too bad I don't have a rip on me =(

4) You still have a ton of changer themes.

5) Every song is Western, except the rare haunted mansion themes, or something to that extent.

The soundtrack is really worth it. I forgot how cheesy Wild Arms stories are, though, and the music really helps explode that feeling.

Every time Diin says "I WANT TO BE A GOLEM HUNTER," i keep thinking about Vaan =(. And he has this huge childish cheer to add to it.

alec Dec 31, 2006 11:05 AM

Ah, ^^; I didn't know this was mini boss theme, I thought
it was since it played during the first boss in the forest
(at the beginning of the game) hehe...

Anyways, I think this is the second field theme, correct me
if I am wrong, not that far in the game yet. :)
