Colored Contacts
Who here has had experience with wearing colored contact lenses? I am looking to get some for a subtle change in my appearance, but I have heard before that colored contacts may cause eye problems; however, I am unsure if they cause eye problems because (a) people get colored contacts that are not prescribed for them and are not fit correctly for their eyes or (b) the substance they use for the color is harmful to the eyes.
If anyone has had experience or is knowledgeable with colored contact lenses, I would appreciate your input on their safety. Thanks. |

You HAVE to get fitted for contacts, colored or not. People's eyes are shaped differently, having them fitted will make sure that your contacts contact your eye correctly. That's why it's recommended that you not share contacts with friends, and if you have THATS PROBABLY WHY IT HURTS.
So make sure you go to an optometrist and get them fitted correctly. |

Also make sure you don't get a drastic change from your natural iris color. Anytime you use your peripheral vision your natural colors will poke out the side of the contacts.

Also, colored contacts are generally lame, and especially so if you get something that isn't inside the natural range of colors. |
I've always wanted to get a pair of red contacts, just for the "WTF" reaction I get from others. Generally though, colored contacts are pointless and a waste of money.

Regarding my "pointless and waste of money" comment? All color contacts.
If you need corrective lenses, get the standard. Why waste almost an extra hundred bucks just for artificial colors. |
Those artificial colors look ridiculous. Don't do it. But if you do, get a proper fitting and keep them clean. My cousin went blind in one eye because of an eye infection he got from not sterilizing his contacts.

I have both perscription and full on colored contacts and I love them both . My perscribed pair is a midnight blue that darkens my eyes and makes them dramatic. The normal colored ones are a bright blue and make me look like I am from "DUNE" which is pretty cool.
|
I've wanted dark violet eyes my whole life. Still not willing to spend the extra money though, even though I wear prescription contacts. (My depth perception is so bad I walk into things without them, and I can't stand having glasses on my face.)
|
I wouldn't mind bright yellow eyes for a bit, just to scare the shit out of people. Although my prescription is quite mild, it could be pretty fun.

I'm not looking for a drastic change in eye color like you guys are making it seem like. Did you not read me say "subtle change?" I'm not going to get neon pink eyes or anything. But anyway, I guess I'll just ask an eye doctor about it.

A wise notion Mr. Spike. Never trust free medical advice. Also, never trust medical advice over the internet. Including this. ;)

When I was in high school, I always thought colored contacts were the coolest things. Though now I don't see much practical application in the non normal colors besides some sort of cosplay or such. While working at Target, I noticed someone's eyes were very yellow (very similar to Ed's in FMA) and asked about it, but of course they were contacts. I was sort of disappointed.

I don't find coloured contacts to impressive. You can tell they are fake, especially when you get close.
But at least you can try them out for the week of Halloween for going to parties and what not. But yeah, check it out with the eye doctor first to make sure everything goes smooth. You definitely don't want problems to arise. |
Despite all the seriousness and the risks, I've seen some really cool looking ones perfect for Halloween. Anyway, the normal looking ones would still require getting used to since even the slightest changes can make you look good or bad. If it fits and you find no irritation, it's your choice.

I chose normal contacts over coloured one since people would probably notice that they look fake, subtle difference or not. Also, I always thought that the colours would somehow distort when you try to look around instead of straight ahead, being a mix of normal colour and the colour of the contacts. Of course, radical colours would look very strange anyways.

Colored contacts are no different from regular contacts. Like everybody else said, go to an optometrist and keep em clean.
