Origami box
My girlfriend's birthday is coming up very soon, and I was wondering if anyone had instructions to make one of those origami boxes that I can put stuff in. I have tried googling for these origami instructions, but the instructions were always either for boxes much too simple to be presenting to my girlfriend as a gift or they were completely irrelevant (cranes, horses, etc.).
Could anyone help me out here? Here are a few images of some origami boxes, in case you have no idea what I'm talking about: img476.imageshack.us/img476/2161/untitled2ak3.jpg img476.imageshack.us/img476/9686/untitled3kh8.jpg img476.imageshack.us/img476/6758/untitled4iy2.jpg (Can't post URL's yet, so you'll have to copy/paste into address bar for it to work) |
Here are a few places that might help you out.

Better yet, make her a Kawasaki Rose. This fold is extremely difficult, but the results are breathtaking. I recommend you set aside an entire afternoon before attempting it. It takes a while to fold even when you've gotten the steps down, and it takes even longer to perfect it into a proper shape that holds together.

Oh wow. These designs are really good. Thanks for all of your help! I'll be looking forward to making/giving her the origami. =D

Check around your city for Origami workshops especially at local universities that offer Japanese courses. The university here offers origami workshops every other Saturday that I've started going to. They are very fun ^.^

Okay, I just tried the Kawasaki Rose and I gave up at step 12 :(
There was a particularly easy one I remember folding when I was young, and it was a rabbit envelope. It was very neat and you should stick your gf's card in that or something if you manage to find the steps somewhere (I only saw it in a library book once). It looks like a normal envelope, but somehow the seal on the back would look like a cute bunny head. |
Dunno if you still need instructions, but I happened to have found the ebook of the particular origami boxes you were orignally looking for.
http://rapidshare.de/files/34801097/Origami_Boxes.zip Its about 4.5 megs. If your girlfriend's birthday already passed then you can just make these for fun. :P |
