Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End

The title for the third and final movie of the trilogy.

This is a spoiler found on wikipedia

Spoiler:
At the end of Dead Man's Chest, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and their company find refuge with Tia Dalma, who offers the opportunity to embark on a journey to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow from his watery grave. Dalma announces the need for a captain that will guide them to "world's end", prompting the appearance of Captain Barbossa, believed to have been dead. Tia Dalma, who resurrected Barbossa, helps Sparrow find rebirth so that he can be saved.[2] The ensemble join forces to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow and Bootstrap Bill Turner and defeat the alliance between Davy Jones, Cutler Beckett, James Norrington, and new enemy, Sao Feng.[citation needed] According to director Gore Verbinski, "Piracy itself is at stake. It's like the railroad coming to the West. There will be a conference of the world's pirate leaders and a treacherous journey to the literal 'ends of the earth'."[3]

Johnny Depp disclosed that Barbossa may give his life for Jack Sparrow's when the Kraken attacks their ship (not the Black Pearl), and has indicated he'd like to play Jack Sparrow in a possible fourth movie.[citation needed] Bill Nighy says his character, Davy Jones, will be far more sinister in the third film. According to Nighy, Davy Jones' Locker looked like an underwater canyon.[citation needed] However, in some production photos and other interviews, the Locker appears to be a large rock-like island with black sand and peaks similar to Skull Island, although not as big and lacking vegetation. There are waterways leading into the island where Jack Sparrow is said to be near the center, dead, and onboard the Pearl. Recently it's been reported that there will be an alliance between Sao Feng and Cutler Beckett.[citation needed]

On August 7, 2006, Oren Aviv, President of Production for Walt Disney Pictures, revealed at his "Disney's Behind the Scenes: 'Pirates of the Caribbean: A Peek Inside the Chest'" presentation aboard the Disney Magic cruise ship, that the beginning of the third movie will find Jack Sparrow in "Davy Jones's locker." Ariv also confirmed that James Norrington would have at least the same importance in the third movie as he had in Dead Man's Chest

In this movie, the long-awaited cameo for Keith Richards to be Jack Sparrow's dad will be seen. Also a little hilarity to note:

Quote:

Keith Richards appearance in the second Pirates Of The Caribbean sequel descended into chaos after he reportedly got so drunk on the movie set, the film's director had to prop him up. The hellraising Rolling Stones guitarist finally shot his long awaited cameo as Johnny Depp's father in Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End earlier this summer, but he is unlikely to remember the occasion which concluded months of speculation. Bill Nighy, who plays Davy Jones in the film, tells Empire Online that Richards was inebriated by the time the production team retrieved him from his trailer to shoot his scene, and he required a little support from director Gore Verbinski. The 62-year-old rocker is reported to have remarked, "If you wanted straight, then you got the wrong man."
:tpg:

Well, the film is a year away from coming out, so I guess we can start discussing it now. Of course if a thread already existed on the 3rd movie, just merge it. :\

I loved the first, really enjoyed the second so yeah, definitely looking forward to this. I'm only hoping it doesn't turn out the way the third Matrix film did, a huge let down.

The most interesting thing about the movie season next year is the "battle" between the three trilogies of Shrek, Spider-man, and Pirates.

It really is up in the air on who will win, but I have a feeling that Shrek will start strong but end weak, so the real battle will be between Spider-man and Pirates. Both movies have the potential to fail miserably, mostly for the same reason (too much going on and too many sub-plots to fill in).

Anyway, Pirates 3 will more than likely be entertaining, but I hope I don't have the feeling of "well, it wasn't worth two sequels" when the credits begin to role. They have much to cover while still keeping it interesting, but I have faith that it won't become stale.

Man, this is one of the films that I'm waiting for. I really enjoyed the last 2 films (especially the 2nd), and there's no way in hell I'm missing the 3rd one!

I don't think it will, since I think the 2nd movie was better than the first. Plus, with Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, what can go wrong? Can't wait to catch this one in the cinemas.

Actually Pirates 3 will becomeing out late may a week after Shrek 3. I cant remeber the exact booking dates of the may movies but I know it is this order.

Spider man 3, shrek 3 Pirates 3.

Sounds like a fun month for parents and children alike.

Dark_Cloud Sep 30, 2006 01:38 PM

I can't wait for this movie. After seeing the ending of PotC 2, anyone will wanna go see the third movie.

Helloween Sep 30, 2006 02:03 PM

Loved both movies, pretty much equally. I need to see the second one again, hopefully i can catch it in theatres before it disappears.

I'm really looking forward to number 3, cause, well, yeah the ending speaks for itself.

I really hope it doesn't pull a Matrix.

Domino Sep 30, 2006 02:19 PM

Is it out yet?

Seriously though, the end of the second film has left me wanting it to come out now.
I am really looking forward to this film coming out.
They shouldn't "do a matrix" with this, but they have done the same thing as the Matrix (split the 2nd and 3rd film in half), but I'm hoping that this film will be just as good as the first two.

Next year looks a good year for films, both Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and Spiderman 3 come out:)

Flara Oct 5, 2006 09:26 AM

omg omg omg

does anyone remember what Barbossa said at the end of the movie when he takes that apple?
all i could think of is "how do you like 'em apples?"
i can't remmeber and it's been bugging the hell out of meeeee

anyways since pirates 2 left me at a cliffhanger i'm DYING to know what's gonna happen in the 3rd movie and I'm FOR SURE that the 3rd movie is gonna be AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Kilroy Oct 5, 2006 09:39 AM

He says "So tell me, what's become of my ship?"
Well, according to IMSDb he says that. I honestly can't remember his line, other than his apple munching.

rockthepartay Oct 5, 2006 10:21 AM

I'm pretty sure that is accurate.

EDIT: Link to the ending of Dead Man's Chest on youtube.

It is looking pretty damn good. It looks as if it is going to be on par with the first two films. I want to see it even more now that I have seen the trailer.

Only a little over 2 months till it comes out, and I can't wait.

1080HD Trailer

Looks pretty damn good. not that far away from theatres either. Hopefully I can catch this one in the theatre this time around.

darkrose16 Mar 28, 2007 07:54 PM

I can't wait until this movie comes out...I've been looking forward to it since I saw the credits of the second movie...I wonder if this will be the last movie? Also, I don't like how Elizabeth Swann's story got so large...eh...I watch if for the Depp

Fiddlegoof Mar 28, 2007 08:10 PM

It's going to be awesome! It almost killed me when Barbossa came in in the second movie, just before it ended, so it'll be satisfying to see how it all plays out. I did feel that the second movie dragged on a bit, so i'm hoping this one is slightly shorter with just as much action.

Hantei Mar 28, 2007 11:24 PM

Haha, that was awesome. Looks to be an all out legion of Pirates vs the EITC. Love how they had the music in sync with the clashing of Jack and Davy Jones' swords during their little dual near of the end of the trailer. No doubt DJ is dualing for his heart.

I'm kinda surprised that they didn't show Keith Richards in trailer, heh though probably for the best.

Monkey King May 25, 2007 03:45 AM

Bumping this since I just saw the movie.

The verdict: Ultimately entertaining, but incredibly disappointing. For a three hour movie, there is a staggering lack of swordfighting. All the piratey stuff winds up taking a backseat to all the mystical folderol. Just way too much focus on the voodoo lady from Monkey Island, in a way that never really feels resolved. I couldn't help but get the impression that they didn't actually have a follow-up story to Pirates 2, and threw this one together after the fact.

Here's some more in-depth spoilery commentary.
Spoiler:
Yeah, you know how the trailer was promising us an all out massive sea battle between the pirates and British fleet? Lies. There's a special-FX-ridden clash between the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman in the middle of a whirlpool, and afterwards the British fleet just goes home. They had this wonderful setup and they completely blew it.

Mick Jagger's cameo was amusing. You have to know he's in there ahead of time to recognize him, though. Too bad he doesn't get much screen time.

Captain Jack Sparrow gets a lot of great lines, at least. The image Mobius One posted up there is a terrible red herring, though. Unfortuantely, he suffers from the lousy plotting as well. I liked him as a mad genius, but now he's just, well, mad. Getting advice from his hallucinations is pushing things a bit, and it feels way more like he's just stumbling through with dumb luck.

Loved the marriage sword-fighting scene, though.

Still, there's enough great moments to make it worth seeing at the matinee, or to pick up as a rental. But this one really falls flat even considering the disproportionate buildup.

Kairi Li May 25, 2007 03:50 AM

So which one wins the Trilogy 2007 showdown?

Spidey? Pirates? or God forbid Shrek?

Have not seen any of them yet.

rockthepartay May 25, 2007 04:35 AM

The disappointment that I had for Spider-man 3 does not even come close to how I feel about Pirates 3.

Man, what a let down. Talk about a movie that falls in love with its own mythology, which then leaves the characters behind as a result.

The amount of disappointment that I have is still hitting me even as I write this. Nothing seemed to work. Nothing seemed to be funny. I just didn't care by the end of the movie.

Spoiler:
Calypso was such a waste. Her resurrection totally took me out of the movie for about 10 minutes. The pirate lords were a waste as well.

The only things are the following: Barboassa, Keith Richards, and the wedding. That's it. Everything else was just goddamn lame.

Man, I totally agree with you on that.

I also agree that the writers have reduced Jack Sparrow from being clever to just plain lucky. There is no correlation between Pirates 1 Jack Sparrow to Pirates 3 Jack Sparrow.

Kairi Li May 25, 2007 06:02 AM

Interesting... On another forum I'm in, everyone loved it and said it was awesome, whereas here most people are disappointed... Is it because the epic scale of special effects overshadowed the flaws in the plot for them or is it all just matter of opinion?

I should be seeing it next week, so I can decide my opinion then.

Cellius May 25, 2007 11:21 AM

I hope all you experts waited until after the credits!

Yeah, I guess you can say that.

They simply go overboard on the style. There is no question on where the budget went in this movie as some did for Spider-man 3. It truly is amazing to watch. However, the humor and many characters are left behind to make room for not only the special effects, but also the writers desperate need to tell an overall boring story.

This is not the same Pirates film as the first one was. Oh, there are plenty of pirates in "At World's End," but the dialogue and characters that made the first movie so much fun are absent. At times, it feels as if I am watching a parody of what the movie could have been.

People were groaning for the movie to be over in the showing I went to. It is just too damn long. Several guys behind me were sighing throughout the movie and questioning what the fuck they were watching. I saw several people get up and leave BEFORE the epic battle, so that just tells me they did not give a shit anymore. Of course, the fanboys were all cheering towards the end, but I saw plenty of disappointed faces.

The positive review you are reading now are probably the hardcore fans of Pirates. I'm very happy for those who love this movie, because I really wish I had the same feeling.
