What kind of music do you bump?

What kind of music do you listen to when you drive around in your car (and the windows are down, speakers are blaringly loud, or at least loud enough for the people standing on the curb or in their cars next to you, stopped at a red light, to hear)? I don't condone playing music very loudly through your car while driving through small neighborhoods, because it's very annoying, and you'll be bother the people who want peace and quiet.

I don't know if this is the same for other people, but there is a stigma, at least for me, to play some (or even a majority) of the music I like listening to because it may be typecast as "wussy" or whatever. For example, I wouldn't be caught dead with "Bye, bye, bye!" playing through my car's speaker, though I have been known in my teenage years to like some of their music. It's the idea of losing "street cred" like in the picture above.

In keeping up with pretenses, I usually select music from my rock and roll, alternative, or modern-pop collections. Lately I've been playing a mix of Metallica, The Goo Goo Dolls, Blink 182, and Linkin Park. What about you? What kind of music do you listen to, and is there music you like but will not listen to in your car, when you have passengers or like in the example I've presented? Maybe it's bumping your classical Mozart.

Also if you want to talk about your sweet speakers and amps or give advice about buying car stereo equipment, then feel free. I've been always wanting to upgrade my speaker systems in my car, but at the moment I can't afford to dish out serious bucks for a more enjoyable riding, listening experience. You can even take pictures of your setup and let the rest of us drool, or suggest where to go to get equipment and installation.

Same here. Rock & Roll. When a great one like something from Queen comes up on the radio I turn it up very high. Or Colletive Soul or Green Day.

But my true passion is VGM and I don't blast that... just keep it high enough for myself. I use a creative zen to hear it in my car so I have 30 gigs of it with me.

I usually blast metal. Right now I have a death metal mix CD which includes Deicide, Decapitated, Death, Cannibal Corpse, Vital Remains, Cryptopsy, Spawn of Possession and some others. I generally create genre based or band based mix CDs.

I also listen to everything I normally do by myself including video game music. I just don't listen to it as much.

Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead with shit like he Goo Goo Dolls, Blink 182, and Linkin Park playing in my car. Just because it's horrid. If we're talking "what does Deni blast when he's being Joe Cool in his car" the answer is early Rancid, Lars Frederikson and the Bastards, Millencolin, Anti-Flag, and the like. Though I've been known to have stuff like the Arctic Monkeys, the Trews, the Tragically Hip, Stars, Death From Above 1979 and Metric pumping pretty hard, too.

I sometimes have classical on in my car, but I wouldn't normally play it at high volumes so others can hear it.

This is mainly because I don't beleive in disturbing others but if it is Holst's 'Jupiter', I make an exception and play it quite loud. Lots of people will know this piece in England, it was used for the Rugby World Cup. Outside of that reference it is still very well known and loveable so I have no problem with playing it loud.

I will not deliberately open the windows though to make the music more audiable for others. I usually have to keep my windows open in the summer because my car does not have air conditioning.

I blast things that I think others should hear, or things that just need to be played loud, like metal.

For specifics, I totally bump Kaizers Orchestra and Rammstein. Completely deserving. And some classical pieces, like Stravinsky's Firebird, are just amazing to blast. If you bump Enya, you get some odd looks and it's somewhat worth the reactions to be going down the road with "The Celts" absolutely roaring out of your car :).

I like to let people know that I listen to music in other languages, so I have my Victimas del dr. cerebro all loud, or my merengue music, or Juanes. Any other music is just loud enough for me.

I also might just have my charango and sing so that everyone hears me(passengers side).

I play music from other countries in my car, also. Often I listen to them loud, but not booming loud with my windows down. Stuff I listen to is nothing much than dance, house, club, trance, J-Pop, K-Pop, insturmental, and video game tracks.

I think that dance/techno/whatever is horrid to listen to.

I usually listen to heavy rock and metal but hwen I am driving I cannot stand that type of music because it always distracts me. I usually put on classic rock or something, like Eric Clapton or The Doors as it's not to loud, always has a nice rhythm to it and easy to relax to.

I like to blare music that other people within earshot would find offensive. Different tracks by Dimmu Borgir, NWA, Santas Coming by CKY. Just stuff that would make the person in the car next to me say "what the fuck?"

As for just driving in general, I actually enjoy easy listening. Hell, Ive blasted Sarah Mclaughlin and Enya from time to time.

The Classic Rock is all that I'll blare, especially Deep Purple, Toto, and Boston...not the usual listenings that I hear, but when "Highway Star" is playing and I'm on the road.....no telling what may come about....

I don't have a car, but a friend of mine drives this old shit-brown Toyota Corrola that you can only listen to tapes with. We have a limited number of tapes, so when driving the choices are: Bathory, Slayer, Guns n' Roses, Chopin, Alice Cooper, Michael Jackson, Neil Young, Supertramp, or a local children's performer named Al Simmons. There's something oddly entertaining about listening to a 40 year old man sing about Lego while driving around downtown.

I don't have a car either, the music my friends blast is enough to make me get off my ass and get a vehicle though, because I can't stand this "nu-metal" phase, and I've heard System of a Down to the point where I don't really care for them at all anymore.

What I *would* blast is Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, Styx, Bad Religion, Offspring (loved them since I was 13), and Dropkick Murphys. Maybe Rammstein, but the German seems to annoy certain people...plus heavy metal sounds like shit blasted high on most car stereos (and I sure as hell am not blowing $1000+ on a fucking stereo system).

But if ever I had one, I would probably put some fast paced metal stuff like Gamma Ray, Primal Fear, Stratovarius, Wintersun and the like. Maybe some Bal Sagoth too!

Anything with a sweet beat I usually turn up nice and loud. Any type of music that is very popular I turn up as well.

Sometimes though, I play anything really loud, and don't care what people think at all.

Disco Punk/ Post Punk/ Electroclash ;) , Band such as The Rapture, New Order, Radio 4, Alter Ego, Soulwax, etc. They got the dance vibe that really wanna makes you jump up and down for a good reason. Besides that, 80's Pop and New Wave is another kind of genre that gets me dancing too. Recommended songs are:
