==================
This album gotta have its own thread on album game comments. I really enjoy the original OSV, despite the crappy 8 bit sound driver of NES, and as far as I know, FF III is not too popular before its release in NDS. This arrangement is truly a treat for me, who prefer the Uematsu's earliest FF music (FF I-III). Overall arrangements are very nice, the synth quality used is very good.

The only flaw of this album is probably the short duration of the tracks, would be much nicer if the songs are looped twice. Let's hope someone will make a rip with longer durations of this game sometime in the future.

I will give this album absolute 5/5. <3

The tracks only loop once? What a crock! Even the rearranfed FF I&II were double-looped!

What is up with all the single-looping coming out of Squeenix recently?

eriol33 Sep 23, 2006 11:22 AM

probably, to reduce the cost production?

Personally, this OST is worth getting if only for the amazing orchestral arrangement 1st track "Memory of the Wind" -- beautiful montage of themes from FFIII. Additionally, the Black Mages track at the end (Final Battle arrangement) is a great way to bookend the album.

The pieces themselves are hit and miss with me, as some of the great electronic elements are mussed up in their orchestral transition. However, a majority come across brilliantly in their transition to acoustic instrument samples.

I thought Battle 1 was looped twice.

Actually, quite a lot of the themes loop twice (from memory), but the main problem is that the arrangements are just too short, which is no problem if the game is fairly quick and easy to get through. As for the music, it's simply wonderful. I'm happy with the end result and much more satisfied than when I heard the average game rip a few months ago. Certainly much more appealing than the Front Mission Online soundtrack which was released in conjunction, but it certainly could be better.

For some odd reason, I prefer these pieces in their Famicom glory. Some of the arrangements add stuff that is actually irritating.

On the other hand, some of the arranged tracks sound absolutely amazing. It's a bit hit and miss with me. I certainly won't be discarding my FFIII OSV any time soon.

Do the tracks on the OST sound exactly the same as on the game? If so, the sound quality is amazing for a DS game.

Cobalt Katze Sep 24, 2006 09:15 PM

They're the same arrangements, but the sample rate on the instruments is lower. The mix and EQ are slightly different as well.

I'm loving this soundtrack. True, the tracks are awfully short, but they're still good. And the very first track, 'Memory of the Wind ~Legend of the Eternal Wind~', is a beautiful and great opening song. It's like love at first listen.

And 'Forbidden Land Eureka' is just awesome. Hearing the original and this, it's fascinating just how different they sound.

'Elia, the Maiden of Water' is, of course, sweet. But somehow, the original song held more emotion to me. Still enjoyable, but not as emotional.

And I'm disappointed in the arrangement of 'Tozas'. The previous version was so much cuter. The drums in this arrangement is distracting, to say the least.

But still, many gems lie in here. The glorious 'Memory of the Wind', the powerful 'Forbidden Land Eureka', 'Huge Battleship Invincible', 'Flying the Enterprise', and the sweet 'Town of Amur' are a few of these gems.

Yet they still release a DVD with it... Ridiculous.

I thought this OST was alright. The arrangements weren't that special, but mostly nice upgrades. Didn't think of muZik's album debut. The Black Mages' track was decent.

Quit your damn bitching. They maxed out a single CD's worth - something that FF1 & FF2 looped twice couldn't do - and I'm sure if you were faced with the prospect of producing a soundtrack comprised of either one disc or two discs, you'd definitely do your best to put as much music on a single CD as possible and cut your production materials in half. Why break up the soundtrack into two pieces when the reason for it is just to hear each track looped again? It's not a "crock;" it's efficient. Is the Repeat All option too much of a pain in the ass for you?

Efficiency be damned--it's not that expensive to press a CD, and splitting VGM works over two discs is common. Let's face it--twice-looped tracks are the rule, not the exception, and there are plenty of precedents within Squeenix itself for giving an album two discs (or even three or four) if it's a major release. I don't buy the "efficiency" argument for a minute. It's laziness, or cheapness, or both.

I honestly wouldn't have minded to pay extra yens for a 2-discs filled with twice-looped tracks. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone here.

FF3 was one of the most popular FF games in Japan. I first played it like 13 years ago, and it remained one of my favorite FF games ever. I've always enjoyed the music on the FC version. It's amazing how Uematsu could create such music with the 8-bit limitation.

Eversince I knew the NDS version was going to be released I was more excited to hear the music than anything else. I got the game when it came out, and it was amazing. Except a few tracks that sounded way different (Forbidden Land Eureka for example), everything was just what I expected. Not saying the different-sounding remix was bad, it was just unexpected.

I agree with Cubed, I wouldn't mind seeing a 2-disc version. They had 2 discs for FF5 and 3 discs for FF6 on.

When i first played FF3 for the nes i really enjoyed the gameplay, storyline and music and i cant wait for the Nintendo DS Version.

I wouldnt mind if this OST had 1 disc or 2 discs doesnt bother me. From all the crystal room tracks ive heard they all are great and i agree with GlobeCLK how did Uematsu produce good music with that stupid limitation?
