Known for his eclecticism, various musical experiments, major technological innovations, and use of mathematical methods of composition, the former Yellow Magic Orchestra member has been a key figure in Neo Geo, acid house, techno-pop, film, orchestral, and ethnic music since 1978. His extensive discography includes a large number of film scores, notably Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence and the oscar-winning for The Last Emperor, several anime scores, and the game score L.O.L. Lack of Love, though his various solo and YMO albums are regarded as his principle musical innovations. He has also acted in several major motion pictures, been a voice with regards to political and environmental matters, and collaborated with many other major musicians.
