Software to turn on your computer?

Is there software that will turn your computer on at a certain time?

I doubt there'd be SOFTWARE, seeing as you know, your computer would have to be on in the first place to run it.

Gadgets nowadays, though :/

Yes, it's possible through ACPI. Mostly you can configure this in your BIOS. And it is 'software' because of the way ACPI works (something like a VM).

I can for example boot up my laptop at a specific time. Check out if your BIOS exports this feature. If you're lucky it does.

If you're using a linux kernel you can try writing a alarm time into /proc/acpi : sometimes this works and the data is injected into the ACPI system, so you get a system power up on alarm.

EDIT: Another cool tool for automatic power up: http://sourceforge.net/projects/nvram-wakeup/
