The CFL thread.

If you like the Canadian Football League, this is the place to be.

Praise your team, bash other teams, make playoff predictions, agrue over whether the CFL of NFL is better, discuss anything!

Also, let everyone know who your favorite team is in the poll. :)

(Mine's the Blue Bombers.)

gdog66 Sep 29, 2006 03:11 AM

Honestly, it's real disappointing that two years in a row, there's been a single-post CFL thread :P

I'm a renegades/REAL Roughriders fan, but since they're not playing this year, I might as well cheer for the oskie-wee-wees.

The Wise Vivi Nov 1, 2006 06:29 AM

Winnipeg Blue Bombers rule! I was so disappointed a few years ago when they lost in the finals. It was their best season in years, and when it came to the crunch for the last game, they failed. Well, this season the Grey Cup is in Winnipeg and the Blue bombers better make it...

I love being in Winnipeg this year!

CFL? LOL.

pompadork Nov 1, 2006 09:42 PM

Ottawa Renegades hello

Qube Nov 1, 2006 09:43 PM

Yeah, it rocks being a Bombers fan sometimes. See how things go this year. <_<

P.S. A CFL thread rarely works on GFF. A bombers thread on the other hand, looks like that would go over well.

No one likes the Ottawa Roughriders.

scotty Nov 1, 2006 09:51 PM

Just beacuse of the location, I will have to go with the lions...

knkwzrd Nov 1, 2006 09:54 PM

I'm in Winnipeg, but I voted for the Roughriders because I just don't give a fuck about the CFL.

lol at teams having the same name. Good work CFL.

Of course, Ottawa screwed up, and now they don't even have a team this year.

I voted for Edmonton just because of their goofy nickname.

The Wise Vivi Nov 2, 2006 02:09 AM

Wasn't it called the Ottawa Renegades?

Now. They used to be called the Ottawa Roughriders. I don't know why they ripped off Saskatchewan's name. I don't care. It's just hilarious. There were, what, six teams at the time?

The Wise Vivi Nov 2, 2006 11:03 AM

Ottawa must had been called Roughriders a long time ago, I don't ever remember them being called that....

It was like, 5 years.

gdog66 Nov 2, 2006 02:29 PM

Oh, come ON!

The Rough Riders, Ottawa's ORIGINAL football team had been named so since the 1890s, and Saskatchewan took it when we were temporarily named the "Senators" in 1924.

Plus, it's been 10 years since the Rough Riders franchise was so brutally mismanaged by the Gleibermans that we ended up selling the franchise, the name and the rights to the team to a guy who never used them.

So yeah, there are still a COUPLE people left who like the Rough Riders (note the incredibly stupid Roughriders vs. Rough Riders difference.)

And we still have the team, we're just not playing this year, because, unbelieveably, we let the Gleibermans back in. *SIGH* Stupid Lonie can go to hell with his damn "Mardi Gras" contests.

No. Hard Pass. Nov 2, 2006 03:23 PM

We gots the name, you gots the bench.

Suck it, Trebek.

gdog66 Nov 2, 2006 03:46 PM

And now, it's time for Final Jeopardy!

The category is "CFL Teams whose names end in 'Riders'."

The answer: "This team won a total of 9 grey cups out of 15 grey cup appearances, in contrast to the other such team, who won but 2 out of their 15 appearances"

Contestants, you have 30 seconds.

But you're right, I would trade all our grey cups to actually be able to go to a game. Plus, Brent Butt likes 'em, so what the hell.

FreeHooker Nov 5, 2006 05:01 PM

No real Lions fans?

Oh come on, they're clearly the cream of the league this year, leg-whipping or not. Who cares about which Roughriders are better, they'd both get smoked by the Lions, just like the Saskatchewan version will next Sunday. If they even make it past Cowgary.:boxing:

Seriously though, I'm really predicting the Lions to step it up and finally win a Grey Cup this year. This is possibly the best team they'll have for years to come.

The Wise Vivi Nov 5, 2006 06:36 PM

Bluebombers are out. Darn! Would have been nice to see them in Winnipeg for the Grey Cup. I don't know whether to cheer for Calgary or the Roughriders right now....

Umm...the Lions? Seriously though, this team is a level ahead of any other team in the league. This could be a mini-dynasty. After the Leos smoked the Riders 45-18, they've flown to Winnipeg to take on the Alouettes on Sunday at 3PM for the Grey Cup!

This is it boys...the start of a dynasty.

GO LEOS!

The Wise Vivi Nov 16, 2006 10:45 PM

I guess we will find out this weekend! Haha! I am in Winnipeg too!

Too bad I will be watching the NASCAR Season Championship instead.

Helloween Nov 17, 2006 01:38 AM

Man, this is the first time i can remember the Grey cup being in my hometown (i'm not even sure if i was alive the last time it was held here). Whatever, hopefully i'll be going to the annual grey cup party held by a man from my church. It's always a party. I have a sneaking suspicion however that he will be attending the game in flesh and blood, which is a little disappointing, but whatever.

It's only too bad that my Bombers didn't make it this year.

Little Brenty Brent Brent Nov 20, 2006 04:17 AM

Owned, rest of Canada!

The Wise Vivi Nov 20, 2006 04:15 PM

Wow. B.C. Lions dominated...

You know, I wish Montreal had won...

FreeHooker Nov 21, 2006 07:24 PM

:D

Go Lions!

What did I say? And they don't even wait longer than 24 hours to re-sign Paris Jackson, Javier Glatt, Buck Pierce, and CFL outstanding Canadian and defensive player Brent Johnson. Wow, this actually COULD be a mini-dynasty.

Enough gloating, I thought Montreal played well in the second half, but that 2-yard line fumble killed everything they had.
