flat screen monitor probs

I've got a flat screen monitor, that it looks like the back light has burnt out in. The screen will come on for about 2-3 seconds, then after that it goes off. However, if you bring a light source close to it, you can see that it's actually on, but the backlight is gone.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix/replace that. :(

I don't know how to replace a backlight myself; I have never done it before. There are guides on various sites which provide directions for doing such. This guide seems to come up most frequently when searching. I can not, however, vouch for its credibility.

If you do not feel comfortable replacing the backlight, the occasional hardware repair store can do them for you. (I have only ever been in two that offer to do this, unfortunately.)

Happened to one of our laptops at work. I had to send it back to the store for them to replace the monitor for a new one. Is it still on warranty?

Yeah, I know of a few people that have had backlights die in their laptops and since they weren't under warranty anymore they found it more cost effective to just buy a new one. =\/

Well, I found out through searching that the model of monitor I have, was one notorious for having the backlight go out after warranty. HP offered replacement for up to 27 months after the manufactor date. Which seems to be Novemeber 2003. Unfortunately from what I've seen, HP only honors that from the date the monitor came off the line, instead of when it was bought in the store. (Which is November 2003, whereas the PC was bought late 2004)

We got a replacement, but I figured if I could just fix the backlight or get it fixed, then I could get rid of my CRT monitor and use that one.
