Oily Skin

Alright my skin has so much ol coming out of it each day. And ya know its bad for your face. ANyone having the same problem and ways to reduce it? Other then just washing your face since thats really obviously. I mean how to reduce the amount of oil coming out.

packrat Sep 13, 2006 07:52 PM

To elaborate a bit on the previous poster's minimalist content:
Since obviously you can't really stop your glands from producing so much oil throughout the day, without expensive prescription drugs, it would be advisable to wash your face with a special cleanser in the morning that uses stearic or salycylic acid(I prefer Noxzema), and maybe once or twice daily (depending upon your condition), just rinse your face with water, and dry it.
Additionally, before going to bed, use some Clearasil, or similar compound with benzoyl peroxide, to aid in killing off bacteria which may thrive on your facial oils. (yum yum yum)

During the day, you can also carry a pack of oil blotting paper. They're not expensive and most of them do work pretty well.

If you can get over the fact that it's for girls, this works pretty well.

Actually heredity, hormones and weather all play just as a significant role in skin composition as diet and exercise.

I've always had oily skin and even though in the last 5 months I went through a really dramatic diet change and exercise regime, my skin is still pretty oily (although not as much). You can't really turn off the production of your oil glands at will, most you can do is control its output.

benzoyl peroxide. no worries, it's "organic."

Eat less junk food. I know you eat junk food.

Anyway, the bezoyl peroxide works well for me. Mine's actually a prescription from my dermotologist, and it works... but it takes a while. However, it also extremely dries up my face. (In fact, anything that cleans up the oil, including just showering or regular washing, dries up my face). Then when I reapply moisturizing stuffs (including lotions and yet another prescription ointment), the acne comes back. Sensitive skin. :/

You gotta make sure not to dry your skin out too much, or the oil actually gets worse. Some of those face washes can be really harsh on the skin, and your skin will get really dry and begin peeling and then--oh joy!--the oil comes back full force. So, don't overdo it... definitely don't wash your face more than twice a day (unless you're out doing sports/sweaty stuff).

Yeah. It's been a few years, and I still haven't found the right balance of applications. There would be times when my face would be perfect. This would last for a few days, thinking I "got it." Then this balance changes and I have to figure it all out again. ;_; But yeah, I know what you mean.

Wasn't there a similar topic? (Well, it was titled "Ance" but..)

Anyways, water and exercise really does work wonders. Take zinc supplements to actually decrease your body's production of oil.

Like the others have said, water. And remember that an already oily face can only get worse if you take in certain foods.

My skin`s moderately oily on my face, dry everywhere else. Try the St. Ive`s shit. Blue bottle... Medicated. Fuck, I don`t remember the details. Works okay. Use it after you shower and before you go to sleep if it`s that bad.

Yeah. Seafood owns my skin, but I love it. It's like a sacrifice. :/

That St. Ive's lotion is awesome. I love it. It definitely makes my skin feel better instantly and it treats okay. I usually use Nivea though since that's what my doctor recommended.

Something else I wanted to mention was how my skin gets a lot cleaner if I don't shower for a few days...

Alright, my nose seems to be pinkish red all the time, and today I noticed in the mirror it was really oily, but only there, no where else. Would that be why its red all the time? And how could I fix this if that is the reason?

Maico Sep 15, 2006 10:42 PM

Do-it-yourself oil blotting papers.

Actually, it's not good to use clearasil or any acne brand on the market right now. All it does is dry your face out... and what happens when your face gets dry? Your body produces oil to naturally moisterize.

Go for any sort of cleaner that is PH balanced (anything that says so or 4.5-5.5 on the PH scale). You can go to most salons and get a really great product called Plantogen. Otherwise, I think Oil of Olay has a cleaner out that's for sensitive skin...
But honestly, just read the labels on the back and look for "ph balanced".
Don't get those stidex pads either. Loaded with alochol. Not good for your skin.

And invest in a light moisterizer, too. Also Ph balanced. If that doesn't work, it might be because of hormones or you need to see a dermatologist.

I disagree. Benzoyl peroxide not only breaks down skin oil, but also contributes as an anti-septic. So even if the body ramps up oil production, it will still kill off acne-inducing bacteria. That was the purpose for which I suggested that product.

Lunar Seal Sep 17, 2006 06:38 AM

Benzoyl peroxide should only be used sparingly, and on certain areas. Not every day as I've seen so many people do.

There is a simple step to reduce oil: cleanse with a ph balanced face wash, tone (NOT with astrigent, with any gentle ph balanced toner), and moisterize.

It's the same shit that the people who invented proactive came up with. It's actually nothing new. it's just good hygiene.

snow_drop Sep 23, 2006 06:18 AM

careful not to wash your face too often, cuz it'll produce more oil. I suggest you buy some of those pocket face towels from neutrogena, they're pretty good to use during the day without drying out you face.

Yggdrasil Sep 23, 2006 06:35 AM

There are some pretty good tips here...

In anycase I too have a really oily face (I hate my skin), a vertiable frying vat. While I don't use any of the above said lotions I just make it a habit of washing my face with soap during my showering and regularly wiping my face off throughout the day, especially after I've eaten.
