Computer Bug - looks pretty bad.

Well, I was experiencing some weird buzzing sounds, like a fan wire being caught. I popped off the side, lo and behold:

I poked at it and it seems dead, so I'm leaving it there :).

Double Post:
Update: It was alive. I heard a VERY large buzzing sound and when I popped the case side back off, it was sitting on top of my sound card. I went to shut the computer down, and when I came back around a bit later, it was starting to crawl between my sound card and modem. A very tight fit, even for a bug. I poked at it with a pencil and knocked it around until it was on the floor.

A PERFECT target for the bottoms of my black New Balance tennis shoes.

I now know what those freaking chirping sounds were from that I've been hearing all week. What puzzles me is how the frick it got in there.

This might have made a better journal entry.

I wonder what the bug is. I hate bugs, and that one looks fat and nasty; kind of like a giant fly. I almost want to say it's a cicada.

DarkLink2135 Sep 1, 2006 03:07 AM

It is a cicada. We have tons of them around here =/. It wasn't very loud though, which is odd, because cicadas normally are pretty deafening. At any rate, it explains the bird/insect sounds I've been hearing all week.

I thought a cicada's perceived sound had something to do with accoustics? ie it sounds louder outside than it would inside a bedroom/computer case? I could be wrong.

Nehmi Sep 1, 2006 03:10 AM

Well thats probably because it IS a cicada (god forbid it be a locust...).

Cicadas are probably one of the most annoying bugs in the late summer/fall. They live in all over the trees here and make that incessant pulsating chirp. Still, quite odd that it would be IN your computer...

Wiki makes it sound like all the acoustics are done via their bodies. IDK =/.

But yeah, thanks for the suggestion that it should have been a journal entry, I've never actually used mine before =/. It's setup now, lol.

And still no idea how it got in there. There are screens on my dorm window, and I would have noticed a bug that gargantuan flying in my computer in the short time I would have ever had it taken off.

Nehmi - is your sig/avatar done by that illustrator Stephen Gammell, who drew for those "Scary Stories" compilations (I think there were 3 of them).

If you did them, you have any photoshop tuts or anything like that, those look INCREDIBLE.

This is definitely a better Journal entry than thread.

Darklink has posted a link already, so I'll go ahead and close this.
