Help needed burning a DVD.
 

Well, quite honestly, I'm not sure if this is the right area to post, I thought that it would be though because of the "discuss everything media related here"description. But anyway...

I just downloaded some bleach and gundam seed destiny episodes.
But I don't want to watch them on my computer.
Right next to me I have a wide screen hdtv which I thought would be pretty insane if I was watching gundam on it. So I was wondering how to burn movies in mpg, and avi format onto a DVD so that it actually reads like one.

If this is the wrong thread to post this in my deepest apologies, but for those of you even helping me thank you.

After reading my request for help. I have come to the conclusion that I have confused many of you who have read this.

So I came to an idea to just state what I need.

1. I need to know how to convert mpg and avi to iso format.
2. What I would need in order to complete task number 1.

That probably isn't a good idea, but if you're dead set on doing so, the Doom9 site has some great tutorials on the subject. Go check it out.

The easiest way would be to just burn the content with Nero or whatever as a video CD/DVD (VCD, etc.), assuming your DVD player can (and I'm sure with the TV you have, it will) read VCDs.

doom9 would be the best bet in getting quality out of it. If you're just looking to see how it'll turn out, try making a VCD with an episode and watching it on the set.

Why would that be a bad idea?

It is a bad idea because you're taking an already compressed source and transcoding it into another format which will result in even more quality degradation and visual artifacts; which will undoubtedly look horrible in High Definition. It is probably better to get an modded Xbox as your media centre, or build a cheap PC, and playback your movies and output to your HDTV.

Also, due to the way variable frame rates work in mkv and ogm files, it is sometimes impossible to convert them into MPEG-2.

If you must convert the media, convert it to DVD MPEG-2 because VCDs' resolution is far too small. Look on doom9 or Videohelp for tutorials on how to convert your format into MPEG-2.

Nero Recode, Sony DVD Architect, TMPGEnc Plus, or any of the tools recommended in the Doom9.org tutorials.

Alternatively, why not get a TV out and stream the videos to your TV?

Another alternative would be to buy a DVD player capable of playing MPEG4-based media such as DivX, XviD and the like. That way you could just burn your files onto a CD/DVD and play right away.

If you want to convert to DVD-Video (MPEG-2), just use NeroVision (Express). No need for tutorials or any other software.
