The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

So Wes Craven's 80s film The Hills Have Eyes has been remade, none other by the talented, blood-covered hands of Alexander Aja, director of the polarizing Haute (High) Tension.

With the film only days away, any expectations? Anyone catch a screening?

All the prerelease buzz makes it sound very promising. On the plus side, the redband clips so far indicate it won't shy from gore.

Ill proably go see it with some buddies. Im kinda in the mood for a good popcorn horror movie. It reminded me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I think ill enjoy it for a good time.

Robo Jesus Mar 6, 2006 10:01 PM

I'm thinking of taking my ten year old sister to see this.:D

jouhou Mar 6, 2006 10:22 PM

Saw the trailer during 24 tonight and it does kinda make me think Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Are they suppose to be monsters or just deformed people?
But I think I'll pass on this and stick with something new like Silent Hill.

Nah, just wierd people driven insane by the nuclear fallout during the New Mexico bomb tests.

CloudNine Mar 6, 2006 10:44 PM

Is this just supposed to be some mindless gore flick, kind of like Wolf Creek? If so, count me out.

J-Man Mar 6, 2006 10:44 PM

I think people have the wrong idea about radiation. It usually doesnt mutate you, it just kills you. Don't let superheroes let you think otherwise.

Because we all know that Chernobyl's intention was the creation of superheroes.

haha.

As a pretty big fan of the original, all I'm hoping for out of this remake is better distribution on the special edition DVD that come out a few years ago.

Your disbelief requires a suspension.

If you call Wolf Creek a gore fest then you need to see some more horror flicks :megaman:

In total agreement with Mr. Krueger on this..Wolf Creek, not that bad in comparison to about every other horror/gore flick.

The original "The Hills Have Eyes" scared the bejeezus out of me when I was about 12. I saw the preview before "Nightwatch" this past friday, and it all came rushing back to me. I've got to see this movie, regardless if it sucks. If it does, I'll just appreciate getting a better copy of the original movie, as my VHS is pretty much dead.

Uh, the original movie came out in 1977. There were three major "underground" horror films before 1980: Night Of The Living Dead, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Last House On The Left - though some people switch Last House... with Hills depending on whom you talk to, as some people discredit Last House... because it has heavy influence from Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring. (I have heavy leaning toward Last House...)

(What do all these movies have in common? All their modern remakes are egg-sucking peices of guttertrash shit thats not worthy to eat the dookie as it slides out like Dairy Queen from my puckered asshole)

I don't want to see this movie. At all. Nothing good can come of it.

DBCE Slayer Mar 7, 2006 09:51 AM

It looks good but I don't think I'm ever gonna get a chance to see it.

About the same case for me >_> I might download it, like I did The Matador (because it never came here...)

Eh, maybe it's less of a gore flick and more of a stupid "lets capture people and slice them up" type of movie that has been done about 30 times in the last few years. I'm not a big horror movie buff, so I haven't seen many. Just thought Wolf Creek was really stupid and this kind of reminded me of it.

You and everyone else. Tanked horribly at the box office. You'd think it was the sequel to Ishtar or something.

Spyer Mar 7, 2006 04:05 PM

Oh man, I want to be in for a good laugh. Seeing some physically-deformed people should give me my bang for my buck. On the plus side, it looks like a good movie.

That's what the trailers make it out to be like.

SemperFidelis Mar 7, 2006 10:02 PM

We need an ichi the killer kind of movie or something. I am bored out of my mind from these crappy horror movies these days.

Exactly why I don't think I'm going to end up seeing this one. Maybe as a rental or something. Hostel and Wolf Creek have completely killed me for those type of films.

evergreen Mar 8, 2006 12:40 AM

Hostel blew chunks. Didn't know whether to be an all-out gorefest or an faux-sophisticated allegory on female objectification. Ended up teasing on both and doing well in neither. I guess that Quentin brand should have been enough of a warning.

Well, this movie was garbage, but I didnt exactly have super high standards for it.

It was good for a few laughs.

That little girl with the ugly Rene Zelwegger face in the previews did make me chuckle.

joshi Mar 11, 2006 01:18 AM

holy fuck. that movie was so fucking cool. so many great moments. what a refreshing movie-going experience. it's so awesome to see a guy like myself running around beating the shit out of nuclear fallout freaks. I absolutely loved it, and if you didn't, you're pretentious.
