Robots versus Aliens

The great Pirate/Ninja debate has always seemed a bit silly and pointless to me, as both are relics of the past and thus no situation where a real life pirate could encounter a real life ninja, both of them then doing battle, could ever come to pass - and that kind of takes the fun out of it.

Robots versus Aliens however is the debate of the future. In a couple of years, planet Earth will undoubtedly be besieged by the first wave of extraterrestrials wanting a piece, and more will follow. Our robotic creations will be charged with warding off the attacks and sending the aliens home with their most-likely-prehensile-if-they've-got-them tails between their legs.

I understand if you're human I'm giving more sway to the robot side of the argument, so let's say in the upcoming wars there will be room for alien sympathisers, who have bargained to work on their side in exchange for money, power, and virgins in the Aliens' new order.

So what's better? What's your favourite Robot/Alien from fiction (or non-fiction; I know ASIMO has his fans), and why is it better than somebody elses favourite Alien/Robot?

AVP. Neither, it's a stalemate.

I'd be more worried about the robots turning on us. And if aliens are able to reach Earth before we can reach their planets, chances are we'd get wtfpwnt easily by them.

Go, aliens!

My favorite robot... It's a tie! It would be Marvin the Paranoid Android and R2D2.
My favorite alien is Starro.

Well, since the Aliens are actual living beings, and robots are not, I'm siding with the Aliens.

My favourite fictional alien? Do you even have to ask?
I don't have a favourite robot...

lol, they made a game of this you know? :)

it's called natural selection hehe.
Humans+technology vs the aliens omigoodness!

This debate is also frivolous, but anyway...

Robots are only as good as we can make them. Aliens can be smarter than us. So whoever possesses the best technology will most likely win.

Well I once skirted a theory about that, called the Singularity. I don't know the ins and outs because so far I haven't been bothered enough, but here's the wikipedia article

With ED-209 on our side, no alien invasion force would dare attack Earth. Seriously, coolest robot evar.

YOU HAVE 20 SECONDS TO COMPLY

Also, to all the ignorant fucks going on about AvP, the Predator is an alien, there's no robots in it. The Alien vs Alien debate is something quite different.

OmagnusPrime Aug 25, 2006 07:48 AM

For those humans who don't turn traitor they'd better hope that the aliens aren't capable of reprogramming said robots, using any sort of EMP against them and all other things that would render robots somewhat useless quickly. A sufficiently intelligent alien race would own a bunch of robots without any trouble.

Any favourite robot: Johnny-fucking-Five of course. "Need input". :)

splur Aug 25, 2006 07:58 AM

Pfft, WHATEVER SHIN. Predator has so much robotics it might as well be a robot.

Okay, I changed my mind. Robotcop wins. Yes, he's a robot because his human body is pretty much dead. No bio-organic material which is alive, cyborg!

WolfDemon Aug 25, 2006 01:31 PM

Like Omagnus said, the aliens would more than likely have some sort of EMP device to destroy our robots and our cell phones and we'd all be lined up for the probing within an hour. :(

Which is why I say we get us an army of mass-produced ED-209s with magnet proof technology that I just made up before the aliens get here.
