Fighting game character select screen. I'm out of ideas.

It is the only thing I need to do, but for now I ran out of ideas. Anyone could advise something that will look good with this layout?

I need some background concept (that will replace the white-gray color).
Some scrolling text, graphics etc. I cannot come up with anything.

black screen with blue thunders in the backround would be great and it is simple to do. you will get nice oldschool effect by that
