Problems with Starcraft
Maybe someone who works at Best Buy could help me, since that's more or less where I got it.
So my girlfriend downloaded Starcraft onto her laptop at a LAN party Best Buy was having. No CD Keys or registrations, just downloaded the whole thing (With the Brood War expansion) from the network, and she has a working, full version on her computer. I copied all of these files to my computer and I can't get it to work. http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/807/untitledza0.png If I click the INSTALL icon, it says I need a full version of Starcraft on my computer. When I click the Starcraft icon, it tells me to put the CD in the disk drive. My girlfriend had the same problem, but someone did something to get it to work. Unfortunately, I can't contact that someone to tell me, hence this thread. Does anyone know what to do? |
You'd probably have to get a no-cd patch off the internet. Though, if your girlfriend's works, and you just copied it straight from her, then I would think that it would work on yours, too...

did you have starcraft 1 installed before brood wars? If so that may be the problem since broodwars requires starcraft.

Starcraft probably needs some registry settings made, which might be what that UpdateReg icon is for. You could try that, though personally I would just buy a copy of the game since it's stupid-cheap now and totally worth it.

Supposedly, the UpdateReg thing is what she did to get it working, but I tried that several times, but to no avail. :/
Anyway, I just gave up and started playing on her computer, but for some reason, whenever you destroy a building the game crashes. So I may end up just buying the damn thing like Magic said. :) Thanks for everyone's help. Closing the thread now. |
