Question from a noob.

I joined awhile ago, and was about to post my first post in the politics thread. It was pretty long, and had a few links in it to back up what I was saying. However, I couldn't post because it said I needed more posts before I could post links...Hm.

How many posts?

Lord Styphon Aug 10, 2006 03:51 AM

Moved to Board Support.

Due to a certain unfortunate incident, new posters aren't allowed to post urls in posts. It's one of several restrictions that I think expire after 10 posts.

spiderweb Aug 10, 2006 03:52 AM

Thank you very much.
I typed out a whole shpiel only to realize I couldn't post it, lol.

Roph Aug 10, 2006 04:09 AM

you can always just manipulate your urls, like changing http:// to hxxp:// or something.

spiderweb Aug 10, 2006 04:29 AM

ohh! I didn't even think of that.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Aug 10, 2006 07:53 AM

If we now get a torrent of free iPod threads with stealth links in, I'm holding you personally responsible, Roph.

Sorry to hear about your PP post, Spiderweb but like Styphon says, it's a pretty useful feature and it doesn't really take that long to find 10 or so meaningful things to say. ^_^

Hopefully spam advertisers will get it through their head that it's a waste of time to spend ten minutes signing up and validating yourself only to post one message and leave on their own/get banned.

spiderweb Aug 10, 2006 02:21 PM

Hah, I understand what the feature is for. Still annoying, especially since I've got 11 posts and am still having trouble with it.

Light_Alchemist Aug 11, 2006 01:12 AM

I have another post count question.

How many posts do I need to post images here?

Bigblah Aug 11, 2006 01:38 AM

The same amount that you need to obtain url posting privileges. (it's more than 10, actually)

spiderweb Aug 11, 2006 03:04 AM

Does anybody know how many posts it takes?!

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Aug 11, 2006 03:32 AM

Bigblah knows but he's gonna keep it a secret. If it was common knowledge, people who wanted to circumvent the rule would simply drop the minimum number of spam posts and then start with the adverts.

It's enough to discourage the sort of people we don't want and few enough for you to pass it just after you've gotten a feel for how the board works.

spiderweb Aug 11, 2006 03:39 AM

Ahh, confidential. Noted, thank you.

Light_Alchemist Aug 11, 2006 06:43 PM

I forgot to ask this in my last post.

Is it possible to change the skin of these forums? This shade of blue is kind of disorientating.

I like message boards with a light gray or white color.

EDIT: Also, how do you know your post count? Is it the Level thing under your avatar?

FatsDomino Aug 12, 2006 01:29 PM

Look under forum skin. Light set may or may not be what you're looking for.

But the GFF blue is the default skin and what most of us use and what we base transparancy or background color when making sigpics. Using any other color skin will make these sigpics look a bit off. Just a heads up for you.

Personally, I find the colors to be pleasing on the eye.

Aardark Aug 12, 2006 01:40 PM

Light set is blue as well.

Why do you need to know your post-count?

I'm assuming you've never even tried light set. :tpg:

Aardark Aug 12, 2006 03:13 PM

Maybe it's called ''light'' because it's a lighter shade of blue.

You're damn skippy! Does it just make it so you have no avatars, sigs, and pictures or something? I remember the old light set would make it just black text and white background with names and no avatars, sigs, or images. It was interesting.

Each of the forum skins have the same shade of blue. Thanks for the help though.

Just curious, that's all. :p

Yeah, I should've seen that earlier. XD

It's a word that means confusing or losing your bearings. A dictionary is your friend. :)

Relax, friend. No need to have a conniption over a statement made by someone who simply prefers message boards to have lighter colors rather than darker ones.

Mac? Are you from the 60s or something (not that that's a bad thing)?

I've had that for several months now, actually. How did you know I like Final Fantasy? ;)

It ends with Dot, c, o, and m.

Oh, good. That means you can skip ahead to the part wherein you go away.
