Windows XP Pro SP2 not recognizing SBLive sound card
The topic sums it up pretty well. I just got a new 160gb hard drive today and replaced my old 20gb system drive with it. I installed Windows xp SP2 without a hitch. My network card and video card all work fine, the only thing that isn't working is my Sound Card. It's a Creative Labs SBLive! 5.1 card. Windows detects it, and doesn't give me any errors when I try to play audio files in Windows Media Player, just no sound actually comes out of the speakers.
I've tried downloading the most recent drivers (I usually install from a really old install CD because the MIDI playback is better), I've tried setting Digital Output Only in the Sound Playback Options both on and off, neither produced any results. Can anyone think of any solutions to the problem sans buying a new soundcard? I love my SBLive card, I'd hate to get rid of it. Also when I installed my new hard drive it automatically assumed the drive letter E instead of just replacing my C drive. I don't know if that would have any effect on it though, since it's a fresh install of windows and everything. |

Since you wrote that you installed a new hard drive I would advise you to reseat the video card in its slot.
I believe that you can change the letter of your new drive from the start menu by using Administrative Tools -> Computer Management or just run "compmgmt.msc" If you right click on the drive in Storage -> Disk Management you can alter its drive letter. |
Use the kX Project drivers. imho the best drivers if you own a soundblaster live! (or an audigy 2).
