What to do with old newspapers
 

I've been getting the New York Times for this past year, and I used to save them... but realized there's no point so I stopped.

But I still have like 50 of them saved, and I thought... should I keep them? Can I recycle them for like 5 cents like cans, or SOMETHING like that? ANYTHING? How can I recieve some type of monetary reward for giving in my old newspapers which are in perfect condition?

I don't want to go around selling them to history buffs or anything, not that they have any significant even on them anyway. But money's nice, and I'd like to start saving my papers again for some kind of investment. [rofl, i know that sounds funny to use the word 'investment' but hey, money's nice.]

Nope. Get rid of them, unless you plan to use them for a project or something.

I no longer get the newspaper, but my family used to recycle them after a few weeks or so. Unless a local school needs them, my advice is to just recycle the newspapers.

Paper mache.

In all seriousness, I would recycle although you can probably donate them to schools like Rydia has mentioned.

Recycling is it's own reward, ya know? Round where I live, the garbage men pick up paper once a month, if you leave it in the special "recycling bag", with your trash. We also have a container for plastic that they collect once a month too. I'm quite pleased by that.

Any particular reason for saving Sept 12 newspaper other than for historical documentation?

Because everyone was like zomg and I was like OMG and my mom was like DEAR LORD so I went out and got every newspaper the following day. I ended up throwing them out the following week, I think I just got caught up the moment and bought them and decided to save them, before I realized how useless that was.

I remember after the London bombings in 2005, some guy at the LA Daily News who thought he was cleverer than he actually is, titled the front page article on the incident "BLOODY HELL".

I know Dec. 7th 1941 newspapers sell for like $300. Big events like that are crazy investments.

Probably because I didn't really feel like carrying them around with me for the next 70 years before they begin to pay off.

Besides, maybe I'm just BLIND with youth or something but weren't newspapers far less prevalent back in 1941? Now everyone and their dead grandfather gets the New York Times, LA Times and hack local newspaper.

Yeah yeah I know, internet and TV news replace the printed word but I'm still not convinced that the literacy rate were what it is now, nor the technological ability to hack down entire rainforest to print those Macy's ads everyone throws out.

I've got a load of ancient newspapers about Stalingrad, but nothing older or newer than that, tbh. I'd just throw them out if they're old as in "not antiquated, but just gathering dust".

I was going to suggest making some kind of paper mache sculpture that you could probably win the Turner Prize with. Failing that, recycle.

Nah, don't expect too much money from history buffs or antique collectors. The thought to sell them never even comes to me since we just recycle our newspapers weekly, especially with all the silly inserts and pointless sections.
Into the blue bag they go and into the blue bin afterwards. Just ebay other stuff if you want money.

If you can't let go of them yet, then maybe clip out some of the more interesting articles and comics for sticking up somewhere, and then you'll probably want to throw out the cut up papers from there.

Use them to line the bottom of your bird cage. If you don't have birds, then recycle them. Either that or use them for origami.

I guess I'll throw them out. I used to save them, but I stopped after a friend called me a "pack-rat" because sometimes I really believe I am. Out with the old, in with the new.

Seriously, it's just a daily newspaper. You read it in the morning and then you get rid of it. It's not something that people in general would actually save or expect to get something in return for. But if it's possible to recycle it where you live then obviously you should do that.

Not that I do, I have a pile of the free newspaper you get on buses. I usually use them to cover the floor for cleaning my football boots.

Hmm, if you have some special news cover you probably should save 'em, who knows they will be valued 1000x in the future?

But recycle is the best thing I could think of, newspaper archiving is not really useful anymore with the whole internet and wikipedia.

I use to accumulate newspapers in the vain hope that I'd eventually take the time to read them.

In the end, I usually recycle them, unless the subject has some significance, then I'd save the paper.

I save them to sop up my sister´s dog´s fucking piss puddles every morning. The paper here´s called LA PRENSE LIBRE. Prensa Libre my ass, taste some fucking piss instead.
