NOBDYH GVIE S A SHIT ABOUT DIABLO IIII

So, Blizzard finally introduced their latest drug at their Paris worldwide invitational event:
  • set two decades after D2
  • still isometric but with movable camera?
  • destructible environments which can deal damage to enemies
  • health orbs reduce potion dependence
  • enemies and bosses can scale to hueg dimensions
  • five character classes (Barbarian returns, new Witch Doctor class, others still unknown)
  • male and female versions for each class
  • Deckard Cain returns

The official blizzard site above has a cinematic teaser and a gameplay video up. Stuff that's yet to be clarified:
  • Pricing
  • Online play
  • System requirements

So yeah, hurray, w00t, fucking awesome, etc

Cinematic teaser for those lazy to visit the site:

Mmmm....been waiting. Lord knows you won't find me anywhere useful when this game comes out.

^-^ Jun 28, 2008 07:45 AM

ooh, I can't wait to get this. I loved the other Diablo games.

Watch the gameplay video, the graphics are amazing.

According to Gaming Steve, the loose release date is somewhere around 2010.

This is also from a random IGN VIP, so the truth behind this is kind of up in the air as far as I know.

Quote:

-The new Battlenet will be announced. It will feature a $20/month subscription model, and that $20 will give you access to all three (yes three) Blizz games, stat tracking across all three games, a blogging/armory section for all games, etc... Steamlike functionality as well.

-Diablo 3 announced with some sort of strange online model. Free single-player, full fledged Diablo game, with a Guild-Wars-esque online and random content areas. $5.00 month online fee, and characters are stored server side amongst other perks.

Lukage Jun 28, 2008 08:10 AM

Tagging on a cost for battle.net would be absolutely terrible news and fortunately for me, enough to completely convince me to avoid the online play.

I assume that "all three" means Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, and World of Warcraft.

Quoted for truth. We've discussing this a lot at the store, and I know some of my employees are going to ask for time off; it will be to no avail. I'll be havin' some vacation time! Bwahaha.

Zephyrin Jun 28, 2008 08:42 AM

Hah, seriously. Where do you work?

I don't mind that small one-game only fee. I think it'll keep the not-so-serious players out of the loop.

I think it's silly how they check your age to let you watch the trailers. I don't think I've seen them do that before. Expecially for the cinematic, which isn't even bloody.

And by the way, anybody who isn't playing D2 with me right now is a fag.

Gechmir Jun 28, 2008 09:06 AM

That teaser trailer is fucking incredible.

I figured Diablo 3 was the surprise. Glad to see I was right =D Would've been pissed if they were all LOL WOW EXPANSION

NinjaguyDan Jun 28, 2008 09:20 AM

Yea I'm so glad they stopped using all their time on WoW and finally followed up my favorite RPG series. I just can't believe it took them so long to get to it, I'm sure D2 sold through the roof, not to mention the free online incentive to buy it, of course that's changed.

Anyone wanna guess at the PC specs you'll need or the HD space? xD Conan required 32GB....

Lacerta Jun 28, 2008 09:25 AM

There was a Q&A during the live stream.

They said they do not like DirectX10, so the system reqs shouldn't be too big, since after all the goal of Blizzard is to produce games that can run on almost any system.

They also mentioned they have been working on D3 since Lord of Destruction first came out, it took them this long until they had a product they felt they could present to the public.

There were a bunch of other silly questions too, like can people still use their maphack or will they allow map editors (A: Diablo is not really a game that supports that kind of thing), how will the loot be handled (Some type of personalized drop system it seems), what about runewords (the last question of the session, with a "No Comment"), how will battle.net be handled (under production, can't disclose info).

A lot of questions that ended up with vague answers.

Of note, they did mention they see no reason why there should not be some form of a respec for your char, incase you mess up.

By stealing from Q.

Here is a "summary" of the Q&A as found on diabloii.net (they were sent to Flux via ICQ as the questions came so that is why there are typos)

[04:41] afraqid of losing wow fans to D3?
[04:42] no we are not afraid.
[04:42] there is not as big a cross over between the 2 communities as they thought.
[04:42] and if they do cross over, they are still playing blizzard games so they are not concerned.

[04:43] some interaction with the enviromennt
[04:43] basically if it looks as if you should be able to interact with it, you will

[04:44] not something we have discussed.

[04:44] will you create physic puzzles
[04:44] don't expect it
[04:45] expect monster combat the system could handle physics puzzles so you never know.

[04:46] will aim to simultaneous ship at the same time but can't say if that will happen in all regions.

[04:48] no decisions on end game.

[04:51] no comment

[04:51] they will probably change the transportation system
[04:52] want people to get round the world quickly

[04:53] 3d game, updated graphics, focussing a lot of the improvements to auction. Bit focus on making the class 'Crazy Cool'
[04:53] big focus on the feel and story.
[04:53] don't have to read quest text you can grab the text qand shoot off but you can read it, it's there and will be rich.

[04:53] seasonal events
[04:53] ?
[04:54] that's a good idea
[04:54] too far out to discuss seasonal events.
[04:55] our aim is to make it a better role playing game.

A rainbow? In my Diablo? IT CANNOT BE

Seriously, though, I'm looking forward to the game just like the rest of you. But, man, that 2010 thing better be a rumor.... :erm:

Lord Jaroh Jun 28, 2008 10:53 AM

Some things look good, others...not so much. But I've been playing since Diablo I. I'll have to wait and see how it turns out. Right now I'm seeing a replay of AvP in my mind rather than Aliens...

Kaelin Jun 28, 2008 11:49 AM

They've been working on this since LoD?! That came out seven years ago, but it is Blizzard so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

I played way too much D2 back in the day. In fact, it's one of the few games that I played so much that I actually regret all the time I spent playing it, and wish I could have some of that "wasted" time back. So while I AM looking forward to D3, I think I'm going to need to build up some willpower to resist playing the game every moment that I can.

guyinrubbersuit Jun 28, 2008 12:41 PM

Good lord this game looks like gravy. The gameplay video has me sold. Everything looks pretty damn sweet.

The work was started by Blizzard North, once they left they decided to throw away everything and start from scratch.

RacinReaver Jun 28, 2008 10:38 PM

I'd say 2010 seems reasonable for a new game from Blizzard. Though I still wouldn't get my hopes up of it coming out too soon.

Has anyone played Mythos or have comments on it? I heard a bunch of former D2 people are working on it (and hopefully it'll turn out better than GW and Hellgate).

Dark Nation Jun 29, 2008 12:44 AM

I never did get into the frenzy of the series like some people here, but I enjoyed Diablo II's gameplay. Of particular note from this announcement, the art direction for this new title is much... easier on the eyes. I'll be looking forward to this :)

Bradylama Jun 29, 2008 01:32 AM

I've never cared for Blizzard's games, but I've always admired their production and the willingness to give people more of what they want instead of 'shifting the paradigm.'

The Diablo III website is just plain awesome. Cain's journal is so hot I actually plan on reading it.

Lyth Jun 29, 2008 01:47 AM

To be honest, I don't think it looks that impressive. I mean, I know there's more to the game than just the graphics, but I have a feeling that the game play will be much like that of D2 and D1, which if I'm correct to assume that, then I'll stick with playing Titan Quest: Immortal Throne. I thought that was better than Diablo anyway.

Para Jun 29, 2008 02:09 AM

I thought the trailer was crap.

The graphics look good and I look forward to diablo 3.
